SEND White Paper Changes — What Parents Need to Know
There’s been a lot of talk about the SEND White Paper proposals — so here’s the calm, clear version of what parents actually need to know.

We’re currently in a consultation period. That means nothing is changing right now. The government is gathering views from parents, professionals and organisations before deciding what the final plans will look like. Your voice genuinely matters at this stage.

The proposals include ideas like national SEND standards, a more consistent EHCP process, and clearer expectations for schools around early identification. These are ideas, not law, and your child’s current support and legal rights remain exactly the same.

Change can feel unsettling, but this phase is about shaping the future — not reacting to sudden shifts. I’ll keep breaking everything down in calm, parent‑friendly language as updates come.

If you want clear SEND guidance without the overwhelm, you’re in the right place 🌿

If a child is struggling, it’s not defiance. It’s communication.

When we shift from “What’s wrong with you?” to “What do you need?” — everything changes.

Let’s build classrooms that listen, not punish.

📮 School Named… Now What?

It’s that time of year when parents start finding out which school their child has been allocated — and for many families, this can be an incredibly emotional and difficult moment. If your stomach dropped when you opened that letter, you’re not alone.

Before panic takes over, breathe.
This stage feels huge, but it isn’t final — it’s just the next step in the process.

As a SENCO, here’s what I want you to know:

✅ The school has been named by the Local Authority — it isn’t a done deal
✅ You still have time to ask questions, gather information, and challenge if needed
✅ The EHCP is your anchor — check Section F and see whether the provision matches
✅ You’re allowed to visit, email, and request clarity
✅ You’re not stuck. You’re informed. And you have options.

This breaks down what the letter really means, what schools must do next, and what you should check straight away.

Save this one. You’ll want it handy.

With 24 years in the classroom and 10 years as a qualified SENCO, my whole career has been about championing children with SEND and challenging the systems that don’t always see them. I’ve watched brilliant young people slip through the cracks simply because the support wasn’t there — and I’m determined to be part of the change.

I believe, wholeheartedly, that every child deserves an inclusive, nurturing environment where they can thrive. And I know that when teachers, families, leaders, and communities work together, we can build schools that truly meet the needs of all children.

If you’re supporting a child with SEND — whether you’re a parent, carer, teacher, or friend — I’m always happy to offer free advice, guidance, or just a listening ear. No one should have to navigate this journey alone, and sometimes a bit of clarity or reassurance makes all the difference.

Let’s keep pushing for the inclusive education every child deserves.
