GO On Tour brought the house to life yesterday with a full‑blown variety show that had something for everyone — singers belting out classics, comedians cracking jokes that set off ripple‑laughs across the room, and costumes so bold they practically danced on their own.

Residents didn’t stay seated for long; the music had them up swaying, clapping, and joining in with the performers like they were part of the cast. It was loud, joyful, and wonderfully chaotic in the best way, the kind of afternoon where you look around and realise the whole home is smiling at once.

🌟 Getting to know the person behind the resident 🌟

At Astley View, we know that every resident has a lifetime of stories, experiences, achievements and memories behind them — and we wanted to take some time to celebrate exactly that. ❤️

As part of our reminiscing activity, we asked our residents to tell us about “what they used to be” — the jobs they had, the things they loved doing and the roles they played throughout their lives.

Seeing some of our residents proudly holding their signs brought back some wonderful memories and gave our team the opportunity to learn even more about the fascinating lives they lived before joining our Astley View family.

Reminiscence is so much more than simply remembering the past. It helps us understand who our residents are, what has shaped them and what matters to them today. 🥰

Because behind every resident is a person with a story — and we feel incredibly privileged to hear it. 💕✨

What a fantastic evening we had celebrating all things Thai! 🌺🥢

Our residents, families and team enjoyed a wonderful evening filled with delicious Thai food, beautiful decorations, music and plenty of smiles. ❤️

It was lovely to see everyone coming together, enjoying the atmosphere and making some special memories.

A huge thank you to everyone who helped make our Thai Night so special — from the food and decorations to everyone who joined us and made the evening such a success. 🇹🇭💛

🩷💜Once upon a time, in the days when a love story could begin with a few handwritten letters rather than a swipe right… there was a young electrician called Don and a young lady called Deanna. 💌

Don was working as an electrician at Chisnall Colliery alongside Deanna’s brother, Ronald. One day, Ron happened to mention that his sister was living in Torquay with her parents.

Well… Don clearly thought this sounded like information worth remembering! 😉

Before long, Don and Deanna began writing to one another, and those letters soon blossomed into something rather special.

But there was just one small problem… Deanna was in Torquay and Don was here in Lancashire!

So, being a woman who clearly wasn’t going to let a few hundred miles get in the way of romance, Deanna regularly made the journey to Lancashire on the back of a motorbike with her brother Harold! 🏍️💨

When she arrived, she would stay with her brother Ronald while spending precious time with Don.

And clearly, all those miles, letters and motorbike journeys were worth it…

Because in September 1961, Don and Deanna said “I do” at the Old Parish Church in Coppull. 💒❤️

Their honeymoon? A return to beautiful Torquay, of course! 🌊

The newlyweds even made their home in Torquay for a while, where they welcomed their first child into the world. But eventually, Lancashire was calling them home, and they returned to begin the next chapter of their lives together.

Don continued working as an electrician, while Deanna followed her own dreams and set up her very own hairdressing business in Coppull. ✂️💇‍♀️

And just like that, their life together grew — from handwritten letters and motorbike journeys, to marriage, children, careers, family and 65 wonderful years of memories. ❤️

Last week, we had the absolute pleasure of celebrating this incredible milestone with Don and Deanna, who have reached their amazing 65th wedding anniversary — their Blue Sapphire Anniversary! 💎💙

They spent their special day celebrating with the team, enjoying a homemade anniversary cake, followed by a lovely family gathering in our private dining room.

And there was one very special surprise waiting for them… 👑

A congratulatory card from Their Majesties The King and Queen, which made their celebration even more memorable! 💌👑

From motorbikes and love letters to 65 years of marriage… what a wonderful journey it has been.

So, Don and Deanna, here’s to the young couple who started it all those years ago, and to the remarkable couple you are today.

65 years, countless memories, one incredible love story. ❤️

💜💜We’re marking Alzheimer’s Awareness Day on 21st September by offering free purple ribbons at reception all week. Anyone visiting, including families, friends, staff, and our wider community are welcome to pick one up and wear it in support.

It’s a simple gesture, but a meaningful way to show solidarity, spark conversations, and help raise awareness for those living with Alzheimer’s and the people who care for them, which is extremely close to all of our hearts.

Today our whole home came together for a purple‑themed art session in support of Alzheimer’s Awareness Day, and the creativity took on a life of its own.
Residents worked with all sorts of mixed media such as tissue paper, pastels, paints, stamps, and textured materials then began building layered pieces that were as bold and expressive as the cause behind them.
For our residents living with dementia, the hands‑on, sensory nature of the activity offered gentle stimulation, choice, and a safe way to explore colour and texture.
By the end, we had created a vibrant display that felt both purposeful and fun 🤩

Last week we decided to have a go at a blindfolded “guess the food” game which brought a brilliant mix of curiosity and laughter to the lounge.
With sight not being an option, residents relied on taste, smell, and texture to figure out each mystery item, turning every bite into a little adventure.
Some guesses were spot‑on, others delightfully unexpected, but the fun was in the trying. The activity encouraged sensory awareness, confidence, and mindful eating, especially valuable for our dementia residents, who often benefit from gentle, engaging ways to reconnect with familiar flavours.

Last week we enjoyed a delightful afternoon of cheese and w**e. It was the perfect opportunity to make new friends, enjoy excellent conversation and share the love of cheese.
We sampled cheese from all over the world and many residents were trying them for the first time. In the end, we all decided that Lancashire Crumbly was the firm favourite followed by the garlic and herb roule.
We look forward to sharing another afternoon like that soon.

🛍️✨ THE ASTLEY VIEW CORNER SHOP IS OFFICIALLY OPEN! ✨🛍️

We’re absolutely delighted to share the exciting news that our brand-new Corner Shop at Astley View Care Home is now open! 🏡💙

This has been a real labour of love, with lots of planning, research and, most importantly, input from our residents going into creating a shop that is useful, accessible and enjoyable for everyone. ❤️

🕑 OPEN DAILY | 2PM–4PM

Our residents, staff and families can pop in and purchase everyday essentials, including:

🍫 Sweets & chocolates
🧴 Toiletries
🧼 Everyday essentials
🎁 Little treats and gifts
…and much more!

🎀 A VERY SPECIAL OPENING 🎀

There was only one person we could think of to officially open the doors — our wonderful resident Shirley, who is our longest-serving resident at Astley View! 🥰

Shirley had the very special honour of cutting the ribbon and declaring our Corner Shop officially OPEN! ✂️🎉

It was such a lovely and meaningful moment, celebrating Shirley’s special place at the heart of our Astley View family. ❤️

📮 AND WE’VE EVEN GOT OUR OWN POSTBOX! 📮

We wanted our shop to be about more than simply buying things, so we’ve also added a postbox outside the shop!

Residents can now write their own letters and cards, pop them into our postbox, and our team will make sure they are posted for them. 💌📮

It’s a lovely way to encourage those important connections with family and friends and keep those traditional everyday routines alive. ❤️

🎶💃 TIME TO CELEBRATE! 💃🎶

And, of course, after all that excitement, it was time to celebrate!

Residents, staff and families came together with our wonderful singer Louis 🎤🎶 for an afternoon of music, singing, dancing and plenty of laughter.

What better way to celebrate our new Corner Shop than surrounded by our Astley View family, enjoying fantastic live music and making more wonderful memories together! 🥰🎶

A huge thank you to everyone who has helped bring this idea to life. From the initial planning and research to choosing what our shop should offer, every detail has been carefully considered with our residents at the heart of it.

We hope the Astley View Corner Shop becomes a much-loved part of everyday life, giving our residents choice, independence, familiar experiences and — of course — the opportunity to treat themselves! 🛍️🍫❤️
