Happy Wednesday all! Just a heads up for those that like to plan ahead that we are cancelled on September 12th. The RDs are a busy bunch and we don't have enough core team members to put the event on. We'd love to hear what your plans are for travelling elsewhere that week!

Thanks to everyone who came along to Chippy parkrun today, whether walking, running or volunteering. It was our joint biggest event since we began in 2019, with 202 finishers!

We've had some email gremlins this week, therefore rather later than anticipated, here is the run report from last weekend. Thanks so much to Damaris for visiting us from Wycombe last weekend and putting this run report together and sorry it has taken us so long to receive it!

Though less hot than it has been this week, it's due to be a warm one still tomorrow morning so do take all the necessary precautions if you are planning on joining us.

🥤Bring along some water and consider carrying it with you when you run. Some of our course is quite exposed and gets a lot of the morning sun, so it can get pretty hot

🧢Slip slap slop - make sure you wear appropriate layers, think about wearing a hat, and pop the suncream on

🚶‍➡️Maybe don't try for a PB tomorrow, but go steady, walk if you need to, and listen to your body

Be safe, enjoy yourself, and we'll look forward to seeing you in the morning 🌞

A million parkruns

The morning of 13th June dawned bright and clear, if a little blustery for the time of year. Up and down the country people woke up and went about their lives, maybe unaware that something momentous was happening that very morning. Parkrun hit ONE MILLION events!!!

It is bonkers to think that something that started life back in October 2004 with 18 friend meeting for a tempo run in Bushy Park has become the behemoth that parkun is today. Over 2,800 locations across 23 countries, a free, friendly 5k for anyone willing to lace up their trainers and turn up.

The Hook Norton Harriers LOVE parkrun, with many of us turning up week in week out to run, walk and volunteer. This week we staged a little volunteer take over and loved every minute of it. It’s so life affirming to see so many happy faces on a Saturday morning!

At Chippy there were 130 finishers, with 5 people doing their very first parkrun - welcome to the club!! 11 people recorded brand new PBs, including our very own Alexander Frame - well done!!!

I’ll end this report with a cheeky little plug! The Harriers are putting on our summer race - the Hooky 6 on 2nd August. It’s the 40th running of the race and there will be finishers medals, free t-shirts, prizes, beer and cake galore. Entires are now open via the link below. We’d love to see you there AND at a future parkrun event!

This weekend sees parkrun celebrating its one millionth event, a huge milestone for an initiative that began back in October 2004, and has subsequently seen over 8.3 million participants, and 1 million volunteers. We are proud to be a part of such fantastic celebration.

We are also lucky to have a big group of Hook Norton Harriers volunteering with us tomorrow, taking over many of the roles on the roster. Thanks so much to all of them - plus our regulars who will also be there.

See you then, 8:55 sharp for the RD briefing!

At Chippy parkrun, we rely very heavily on our fabulous volunteers completing their Duke of Edinburgh awards. Over the 6.5 years since we started, 48 young people have completed their volunteering with us, across Bronze, Silver and Gold awards. This equates to 16 years and 3 months of time spent volunteering with us!

We love supporting young people through their awards and are proud to have nearly hit the half century.
