GCSE French, German or Spanish coming up? My top four tips for GCSE students:
1. Little and often. Learning a few words or phrases a day is FAR better than a night before cram.
2. You Tube (yes you heard me right). Watch a clip in the target language. You could watch someone baking a dessert in French, watch a German kid playing a crazy prank on his little sister, or listen to a Spanish song. Pick out keywords, play it over and over again and get your ear used to hearing the language. Trying to listen without looking at the screen is also a great way of honing your active listening skills.
3. Read, read, read. Print something off the internet and read it. Like with the listening, get used to reading in the target language. Find something relating to a GCSE topic if you can e.g. an article about the Tour de France to tie in with sport and leisure. Even reading a couple of paragraphs a week will make ALL the difference.
4. Go back and revisit your vocab list a few days later to ensure that it's gone into your long term memory.
