Throughout this week we have celebrated Chinese New Year. At Colerne pre school we enjoy celebrating festivals from around the world it is a great way to help build children’s knowledge about the understanding of the world. On Tuesday we had a very exciting visit from Trisha who came into to create some wonderful helicopter stories. Helicopter stories is a great way of promoting children’s communication and language it also extends on children’s imagination giving them a chance to express their stories and then having the chance to act them out with their friends.
On Wednesday the children created some amazing dragons using different resources. We also watched a video on the dancing dragon lions and then created some dragon necklaces. The children carefully thread the pasta onto the pipe cleaners using their hand eye coordination. After the children had finished we used golden and red paint to decorate our dragon necklaces.
Thursday we started of the morning with an exciting baking activity. The children got the chance to create their own dragon they did this by icing their rice crispy with red icing and decorating it with some sweets. Some children explained that their dragon had “horns” and “two eyes”. This activity is a great way to help children with their listening and attention as the children had to carefully place the icing on to their dragon and then use their fine motor skills to carefully place the sweets on top. In rising 5s we watched a video on how children celebrate Chinese New Year this is a great learning experience for the children to see what they do in different festivals. The children also asked to watch the dragon dancing on the board and do some dragon dancing. The children then had the opportunity to try on different outfits and look at the amazing resources.
