Autumn 2025 Exhibition
Week 12 Acrylics:The Matterhorn in Autumn
This dramatic landscape captures the
iconic peak of the Matterhorn with a bold,
contemporary twist. Set against an expansive
sky and rocky terrain, the scene uses a striking
autumnal palette—icy greys and deep stone
tones are offset by flashes of golden ochre
and rich reds in the grasses and undergrowth.
Students will explore techniques for painting
jagged rock formations, layering light and
shadow, and creating atmospheric skies with
a modern edge. A powerful final piece, this session is all
about contrast, mood, and expressive landscape
interpretation.
Week 11 Acrylics: Polar Bear Portrait
A captivating close-up study of a polar bear, this
project explores both portraiture and texture.
Working in a limited palette, you’ll discover the
subtle shades of white, grey, and blue that bring
this majestic animal to life.
Week 10 Acrylics: Impasto Autumnal Scene
This session celebrates the rich colours
and textures of autumn using the impasto
technique, where thick layers of paint create a
sense of movement and depth. By simplifying
the composition to focus on colour harmony
and expressive brushwork, we learn to edit
out unnecessary details, allowing bold strokes
and tonal variations to carry the painting.
Whether inspired by a forest path, cityscape, or
abstracted autumn tones, this piece encourages
artistic freedom and dynamic mark-making.
Week 9 Acrylics: Acrylics: Mid-Century Still Life
Inspired by mid-century modern design, this
project transforms everyday objects into stylish,
graphic compositions. Mid-century art has a
timeless appeal, and this session encourages
you to embrace minimalism, shape repetition,
and bold contrasts.
Week 8 Watercolour: Cubist Landscape –
Rocks & Water
Moving beyond traditional landscapes, this
project explores how Cubist principles can
be applied to nature. By deconstructing a
scene of rocks and reflective water, we create
a more abstract, structured composition
that emphasizes shape and colour harmony
over realism. This exercise encourages you
to reimagine landscapes as geometric forms,
balancing creativity with strong design.
