Many people don't seem to realise that partner dancing is considered Haram by practicing Muslims. I only found out myself when an Asian looking man screamed Haram at me in East London while I was handing out flyers advertising my salsa dance lessons about 15 years ago in Whitechapel. That man was very intimidating, so I felt obliged to be apologetic for my personal safety.
I had a similar experience in Walthamstow within a year or 2 of the above with a group of Asian looking teenagers also said that it was Haram, although they were not intimidating.

BALLROOM DANCE LESSONS WITH SOCIAL DANCING ON SUNDAYS

Schedule & prices

5.00 - 6.15pm Beginners Ballroom dance downstairs with Piotr
5.00 - 6.15pm Intermediate Latin-American dance upstairs with Barry
6.15 - 6.45pm Ballroom / Latin social dancing & tea break (no charge for tea / soft drinks & biscuits).
6.45 - 8.00pm Beginners Latin-American dance upstairs with Piotr
6.45 - 8.00pm Intermediate Ballroom downstairs with Barry
8.00 - 9.00pm Improvers Latin-American upstairs with Barry.
8.00 - 10.30pm Social dance practice downstairs with a free beer or wine & a slice of pizza.
£7 all evening, or still £5 without the lesson.
£20 for four consecutive weeks, or
£35 for ten consecutive weeks.

Latin-American dance classes are now held in the smaller room upstairs & whilst Ballroom lessons are held downstairs to better utilise the available space. We are also linking our dances at Colliers Wood with those at the Indian YMCA in Central London (George Tudor-Hart's other venue) so that students can learn 4 dances per month rather than 2 (see details below).

Our calendar has changed again as follows so as to remove the Viennese Waltz from the schedule at the Indian YMCA which follows the same Ballroom dance schedule -

Quickstep & Cha-Cha-Cha 18th & 25th March
Waltz & Jive 1st & 8th April
Tango & Rumba 15th & 22nd April
Slow Foxtrot & Samba 29th April & 6th May
Quickstep & Cha-Cha-Cha 13th & 20th May
We plan to alternate each set of 8 weeks between the Samba & Salsa with the Slow Foxtrot lessons. We may also decide to incorporate the Viennese Waltz with the Slow Waltz Lessons.
