We will be there!

🎈 In two months time we will be hosting an Open Day! This year the Record Office is celebrating its 80th birthday and everyone is invited! 🎂 There will be behind the scenes tours (book a slot online or on the day), a document display (including our oldest document from 780AD!), an oral history listening station, 1940s films compiled by Screen Archive South East, a chance to speak with family history experts and free refreshments from our vintage "tea tent". We look forward to celebrating with you soon! 🌟

Saturday 24th October. Our next event is the annual conference which will be held at Barnham Community Hall, ten minutes walk from the railway station. This year, the theme is Sussex Writers and we have five speakers lined up. Non-members are very welcome to attend. The cost is £35. Tea/coffee and biscuits will be provided morning and afternoon but please bring a packed lunch. For details of advance booking email [email protected].

We had an excellent attendance for James Sainsbury's talk, 'The Archaeology of the South Downs and Latest Discoveries on Highdown', last Saturday and gained five new members. Thank you to everyone who came! The venue, Clapham and Patching Village Hall, was perfect - especially as there have been some interesting archaeological discoveries in that area.

Our visit to Ardingly College this afternoon. We had an interesting guided tour with college archivist Laura, and regaled with (sometimes alarming!) school memories from a former pupil, Richard Howell, our chairman!
