🌟 This Week at Westergate! 🌟

It’s been another busy and exciting week at Westergate! 💛

🎨 Our Little Artists 🎨
This week, our little artists got creative making beautiful mosaics using painted lasagne sheets! The children loved talking about different colours and textures, sharing their ideas and exploring the materials. They were so proud of their masterpieces and couldn’t wait to show their family and friends! 🖼️✨

🚜 Tuff Tray Fun! 🚜
We’ve had lots of exciting tuff tray activities this week, including monster truck racing, colour-mixing gloop and rescuing the stuck animals! The children had so much fun exploring, experimenting and working together. 🐾🏎️

🍂 Autumnal Explorations 🍂
A huge thank you to everyone who has brought in our autumnal treasures! The children have absolutely loved exploring the conkers, leaves and other natural finds. We’ve been using our mathematical skills to match and create patterns using conkers and painted leaves, as well as exploring conkers and pumpkins made from Plaster of Paris. 🎃🌰🍁

It’s been a wonderful week full of creativity, exploration, communication, problem-solving and learning through play! ❤️

This week, we have been following the children’s interests in role play and incorporating these interests into our displays and learning areas, creating exciting and interactive experiences for them to explore. 🥰

Our small world units have been transformed into a farmyard, where the children can create their own stories and imaginative play. 🐄🐖🐑

In our role-play area, the children can dress up and pretend to go to school, using their imaginations to act out familiar experiences. They have also been busy creating their very own roads and scenes, developing their creativity, communication and storytelling skills as they play. 🚗🏫

It has been wonderful to see how much the children have enjoyed being creative and using the spaces around them to bring their ideas and imaginations to life. ❤️

♻️ We have also started to introduce recycling more within the setting. The children are learning about the importance of looking after our environment and are becoming involved in separating different items ready for recycling. This is helping them develop an understanding of sustainability and how even little actions can make a difference. 🌍💚

🎨🌸 Today at Hopscotch, we turned into little artists! 🌸🎨
The children were given beautiful vases filled with flowers, along with all the tools they needed to create their very own masterpieces. 🖌️🎨
We talked about the different colours we would need, explored what the flowers looked and smelt like, and shared our ideas with one another. This provided lots of opportunities to develop our communication, personal, social and emotional skills, as the children chatted, listened, shared resources and made new friendships. 💕🌼
It was so lovely to see the children becoming completely engaged in the experience and watching their confidence grow as they created their artwork. Most importantly, they were incredibly proud of their own masterpieces — and rightly so! 🥰🎨

Westergate Graduation - Friday 17th July 🎓

This day will be for our school leavers ONLY. If your child is staying with us in September your last day of term will be Thursday 16th.

All school leavers are invited to arrive at 10am for a play session before the presentation & parents are invited to join us from 11am ✨

We can’t wait to celebrate all our wonderful little leavers, bring your tissues! 🥹🎓✨

We’re already fully in the swing of the second half of our Summer term! 🌞

One of our recent highlights was Dinosaur Day 🦖 where the children enjoyed a variety of dinosaur themed activities throughout the day, including using shapes to create different species of dinosaurs, pointing out which ones had horns, which ones had long necks & which ones were the biggest!

We’ve also been busy building our maths skills through fishing games focused on number and colour recognition, whilst also exploring positional language through car play, learning concepts such as round, up, down, under and over 🚗

Imaginative play has been a big focus too, with the children enjoying our knights and dragons set up, protecting the castle from dragons! As well as spending time creating stories together in the dolls house.

We also started the week with a shoe shop and school uniform role play area, helping to promote independence skills as the children practised putting on shoes and dressing themselves, these are great ideas you can also do at home to help the transition to big school!

🌞 We hope you’ve all had a fantastic half term and enjoyed the sunshine. We can’t wait to see everyone back at preschool this week, ready for a fun and busy last half of the summer term!

🩺 Our focus this week was International Nurses Day and to celebrate, we had a very special visitor.. Claire’s sister, Mel! Mel is a paediatric A&E nurse and she came to talk to the children about the important ways she helps care for people. She even brought along some of her special equipment, which the children loved exploring and having a turn trying out themselves. Thank you so much to Mel for coming to visit us! 💙

Following the children’s interest, we extended this learning into our play by transforming our role play area into a doctor’s surgery. The children enjoyed taking turns being doctors and patients, as well as caring for their dolls and talking about how we can help others feel better.

We also recently welcomed some new Hopscotch pets - our stick insects! On Thursday, the children took turns carefully holding them before creating their very own stick insects using pipe cleaners and beads, which looked fantastic 🪲

Outdoors, we’ve enjoyed lots of sand play following the delivery of our brand new sand. The children loved getting involved and were very excited to take turns sitting in the driving seat of the huge delivery truck 🚛

🌍 What a busy week we’ve had! 🌻

The children loved spending time outside in the sunshine, taking turns to plant their very own sunflower seeds, we can’t wait to watch them grow 🌞

We also celebrated Earth Day! We created wonderful handprint Earths and got messy using our fingers and hands to make a beautiful group wildflower display, complete with bumblebees & butterflies! 🦋

To support our fine motor skills, the children used tweezers to pick out bugs from the tuff tray and we also got creative painting a “wall of recycling” to explore how we can look after our planet ♻️
