Technique Tuesday: Don’t Say Everything at the Same Speed

Want to make a scene more interesting?

Think about your pace.

A character who is nervous might rush their words. Someone who is angry might slow down and make each word feel deliberate. A character who is excited might speak quickly and barely pause.

Try saying the same line three different ways by changing your speed and pauses.

A little Monday reminder 💛

Sometimes the hardest part of dance is simply getting yourself through the studio door.

You might be tired. You might not feel like practising. You might think, “I’ll just skip this week.”

But then the music starts.

You warm up. You laugh with your friends. You learn something new. And suddenly, you’re very glad you came 🩰✨

So if you’re debating whether to show up this week, this is your sign.

Did you know dancers listen with more than just their ears? 🎶👂

During one dance class, children are listening for the beat, following instructions, remembering corrections and staying aware of everyone around them. That’s a lot happening before they even think about their next step!

Over time, dance can help children become more focused listeners, notice the little details and respond confidently to instructions. These are skills that can be useful in the studio, at school and in everyday life. 💜

So next time you see a dancer moving perfectly to the music, remember there’s plenty of listening happening behind those moves!
