"It's wonderful to see the curiosity growing in the children on a trip like this,” said science teacher, Mr Rowe.

Imagine seeing white storks bill-clattering on their nests and flying overhead, a purple emperor butterfly basking in the sun and sticks covered in beavers' teeth marks?

This was a few of many treats in store for our Year 5 scientists when they visited Knepp, a trailblazing 3,500-acre rewilding project in Sussex which has helped introduce these rare species back into the UK.

“The children were fascinated to see in real-life what they have learnt in the classroom. It’s the kind of learning you don’t forget,” science teacher, Mrs Edwards, added.

What news of the IAPS Boys' U13 Cricket Final?

“The boys came second. It’s not the result our boys wanted and we were so very close but I am so proud of them all,” said Brandon Hanley, Head of Boys’ Sport.

“For a school the size of ours, qualifying for the final and finishing second in the country is an incredible achievement and one we are very proud of. Huge congratulations to Bedford School, who won the final and played a fantastic game.

“It may be hard for our boys to see right now that it's an incredible achievement as it will be clouded by 'what ifs' and disappointment, but they will look back on what they did here, and how they got here, with great pride. Their parents, my staff team and the Westbourne community are, without doubt, very proud of all of them.

Mr Hanley added: “Some of the hardest moments, not just in sport but in life, turn out to be the best lessons and I have no doubt these boys will have many more big sporting moments ahead of them.”

“I’ve played in a fair few high-pressured sporting moments in my life, but I can honestly say watching this unfold was as hard, if not harder, than all of them,” said Brandon Hanley, our Head of Boys’ Sport.

This was the moment we qualified for the IAPS U13 Boys' Cricket National Finals day taking place TODAY at Stamford School

"The courage shown by all the boys, both Westbourne House and Brambletye School, was inspiring. The togetherness of both camps in what was an unprecedented situation was lovely to see.

"Bad luck to the Brambletye boys. A bowl-off is never the way anyone wants to progress to a final. The weather ruined what was probably going to be a great game of cricket and we wish you all the best in your cricketing careers ahead,” Mr Hanley added.

This is how trailblazers begin... by diving into an opportunity.

Congratulations to these two incredible Westbourne House swim squad swimmers, who did us proud at the IAPS National Swimming Finals at the iconic London Aquatic Centre.

Our Year 7 'Swimmer of the Year' came 4th in her 50m Freestyle heat with a time of 32.28 (which was quicker than her regional time). She came 8th out of the two heats, which meant she swam again, and then came 7th in the final with another quicker time of 32.17.

Our Boys’ Swimming Captain came 8th in his 50m Butterfly Heat with a time of 33.94, which is another PB for him and breaks the school record (his own!). Overall, he placed 16th.

Swimming coach, Mrs Pullen, was poolside and said: “It was wonderful to watch these two swim so well and compete at the highest level with such a positive, mental attitude. Just to qualify for these prestigious finals is an enormous achievement - we are very proud of them indeed.”

Head of Art, Lisa Jeram, said: “These scholarships reflect much more than artistic ability; they are a testament to our young artists commitment, perseverance and determination, all of which are qualities our pupils work hard to develop throughout their time at Westbourne House.”

Whether pupils love painting, sculpting, felting, textiles or designing, our art teachers support them to experiment, work with different materials, try new techniques and thrive.

Mrs Jeram added: “We encourage our pupils to be themselves, to enjoy themselves and to understand that creativity is a process. We want them to test ideas, take risks, make mistakes and try again. Some of the most successful outcomes come from being willing to have a go and learn from the experience.”
