A chance to step in the footsteps of heroes this week as Simon visits the Normandy beaches to retrace the journey taken by his grandfather. From landing on Sword beach as part of the first wave on D Day to Caen and beyond. The books, the photos, the films are amazing but the impact of standing on the sand and seeing it first hand is impossible to recreate.

Thank you so much to Moving Mountains Ski I have learnt so much in the last week and a bit. Although my son is definitely better than me now and ready to hit the slopes Friday with Shoreham Academy

It’s never too late to learn and try new things over the next couple of weeks Simon will be learning to ski at Moving Mountains Ski in Small Dole. Having spent years in the mountains climbing and mountaineering time to learn the quick way down.

It's happening, the unofficial WSCC LOTC Christmas lunch and I can't wait to see what Simon's wearing today.

After a busy day working with pupils in years 2, 4, 6 at Bolnore School, Tony and Simon headed up to the capital for some CPD. An evening lecture at the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG) looking at the last century of exploration on Everest and in particular the 1920’s. Really thought provoking and exposed some of the inequalities that were created and still exist on the mountain.

At the weekend we had a great opportunity to take the classroom outside. This Trig point was slightly off route but the group chose to make the diversion to have a look. Whilst there we talked about the Army Ordinance Corps, measuring height and triangulation using the theodolite and grid refences. On route we talked about the crops we came across, the raptors swooping around on the thermals, the water run off eroding the ground and much more.
I'm not a teacher so I can't guarantee the quality of my delivery but 1 thing I can guarantee is that the quality teaching you deliver in your classrooms was put into context in a tangible way over the weekend. We covered maths, geography, biology, history, physics and pshe. DofE is not just for Geography and PE staff.

Even in our free time the LOtC team are drawn to play and learn in the outdoors and despite the weather we pumped up the SUPs this morning and got out on the river, Tony is still mastering the step back turns.

04/11/2022

As a team we pride ourselves on keeping current both in practice and theories. After many hours of study, 9 hours of written exams and 21,000 words of dissertation Simon has completed his NEBOSH National Diploma, degree level qualification is safety and health.

23/10/2022

Never bad weather just bad equipment Tony and Simon donned their dry suits today and got out on the river in their kayaks to coach both children and adults whilst supporting the next generation of coaches to develop as well.
