Would you like to win a Virtual Field Trip for your school?
To celebrate the launch of our Virtual Field Trips, we are offering one of our Roman themed Virtual Field Trips for FREE to TEN lucky schools!
Suitable for school years 3 - 6, each field trip explores different elements of the Roman occupation and daily life. Combining collection objects, actors and interactive activities, our virtual field trips bring high quality museum learning into classrooms.
Developed thanks to grant funding from Art Fund’s Respond and Reimagine programme, we have three different themes to choose from:
Britain before the Romans
Roman Daily Life
Roman Army
To be in with a chance of winning, simply nominate your chosen school in the comments below and state which of our themes you would like to win. The more nominations your school receives, the higher their chance of winning! Entries close on Friday, 11 December and winners will be notified the following week.
For more information and for our terms and conditions, please visit our website: www.thenovium.org/vft - please note that the accompanying loan boxes will need to be collected by a member of school staff from The Novium Museum.
Is there still a virtual open evening tonight?
Could you please clarify if Year 13 pupils can go home when they have finished their lessons for the day?
Thank you to the fabulous teachers who have been so kindly supporting our children with their school work during the Coronavirus lockdown. I think the iPads are proving their worth right now. We really appreciate the helpful comments and feedback our year 10 son is getting. Thank you.🙂
What’s happening with the refund of the year 6 residential trip money?
I am absolutely stunned by an email I received today regarding free school meals (yes we do receive as we are on universal credit at the moment but dont use them )
If you are a low income family, you have to go in to the school (social gathering) every day to pick up your child’s packed lunch!?!
It would cost most families more in petrol to do this than the cost of the lunch, oh and put them in a social gathering every day.
How on Earth is this helping children from low income families? 🤷‍♀️
***because my email seems to be down***

Dear staff and teachers at CFS.

During this time of uncertainty and stress, we wanted to thank you for the constant communication and updates that you’re providing. You’re all doing a great job, under exceptional circumstances.

For us, keeping healthy and doing what is right for our family and for the community is paramount.

Exams come and go; and there is more to a person than a grade. Our children will continue to work hard at home and they will be fine.

I’m sure that I speak for the many. Please look after each other and when this is all over, we’ll look forward to seeing our lovely school back in full operation.
Want to say a huge Thankyou to the Teachers and people involved in taking our children on the Ski Trip and giving them a great time, amazing experience and keeping them safe. 😁👍X

The season has begun. 2 new freshman Ceaser and Fergus coming in along with the ‘originals’ and two Year 8’s took on the might of a team that has been undefeated since Year 7 in the Saints (Phillip Howard).

Kick off as usual and Joe minus his Alice band went stampeding like a Rhino into the opposition bowling over players to get to the opposition centre smashing him to the deck and forcing a knock on. Could this be the game that topples the Saints was the question in everyone’s mind. Many phases, many hits, many carries but CFS could not get over the white line. Half time approaching and 3 tries to nil was the cry from the home crowd.

Half time talks done, it was clear that we needed to look back in time, we needed something. I remember looking in history text books and seeing a Roman Stood behind Ceaser, it was such a moment in time. CFS brought it to real life, early in the second half Ceaser rampaged into war, 4 players trying to bring him down, Roman right behind screaming to push on for his quest to the try line, could this be that moment we needed. It was, quick ball from Thomas feeding the speedster Jamie and CFS did something no team has done this year and scored against the ‘saints’. During the game it was clear how connected we were as a team, standing head and shoulders above was Ewan, Year 8, what he lacked in height, he made up for in his tackles as no one got past him and every tackle bought a cheer from his team mates.

Genuinely massive praise is needed to our team as they never gave up, they never moaned and worked so hard, Yes they were beaten but they took a chunk out of the ‘Saints’ ego, they also have realised that when they play, they can really compete.

Team:
Joe C ©, Fergus M, Sam B, Oscar G, Ceaser TC, Finley G, Thomas K, Jamie C, Finn-Lee M, Harry C, Ylan LS, Craig S, Roman B, Year 8, Ewan H, Year 8

Match report: Mr Tilling.

With every organisation there are always inspections, for the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) we have the Biennial Review and today, we had our very first.

We had the privilege and honour to host as the Reviewing Officer, Lieutenant Colonel Ben Powell (Retired), recently retired as the Chief of Staff, Grenadier Guards, Field Army Command Group, Army HQ, part of the Strategy Directorate, Future Plans, Field Army Command Group.

On arrival, he was meet by Captain Cook, the Contingent Commander, Sergeant Evetts, Cadet Training Team and the School Staff Instructor.

The review began with a series of stands demonstrating the scope and breadth of what the school offers our young people, these included Drill, First Aid, Command/Team Building and Fieldcraft.

The Lt. Colonel observed the contingent staff and cadets undertake a series of activities, selected to demonstrate and showcase a small element of what the CCF has to offer within the school grounds. At each stand he was able to observe the activity, ask questions of the cadets and staff and gain feedback from the cadets directly on how they enjoyed the CCF.

Then the escorting team went with the Lt. Colonel to meet the Executive Principal and hear how the school and CCF combine and synergise to support the young people. Discussing the recent rapid expansion of activities that we were able to offer throughout the year.

The review ended with a formal photograph and the Lt. Colonel saying a few words.

The CCF staff were, again, so proud of the cadets, their turn out and confidence when talking to the Reviewing Officer and showing what an amazing opportunity the CCF is, through the wide range of activities it has to offer our pupils.

A very big well done to all of our cadets and staff.

Mrs New was delighted to host the first Principal's Award tea party this afternoon. The pupils from across the whole school that were invited have been recognised for doing some amazing things either inside or outside of school.

Their reward was a visit to Mrs New's office to play Uno, drink hot chocolate and share stories with each other. Well done to them all.

This year's World Language Celebration will be next week with lots of exciting activities happening throughout the school. On Monday we will sell some international snacks at Secondary break time for 50p if anyone would like one. There will also be themed food available all week in both Primary and Secondary.

Pupils will have the chance to answer the register in different languages during the week and to do some cross curricular work or language quizzes.

There is a bake-off competition where pupils will need to combine research skills and baking prowess to create a show-stopping bake to represent a choice of language, culture or country. Pupils should bake and decorate nut-free CUPCAKES OR BISCUITS and bring them to school on Tuesday 26th September. They must provide either a list of ingredients or a recipe so that we can comply with allergy laws. It would be fantastic to see this in English and in the language you are representing. Remember to include your name so the judges can award points!

At Secondary break time on Wednesday 27th, there will be a Bake Sale. Proceeds will go to various fundraising causes with everything priced at 50p. Prizegiving will be on Thursday 28th at the evening event and judging includes: the language theme, how technical the bake was, how attractive it looks, smells and tastes what the texture is like.

We can't wait to see you all at the evening celebration at 5pm in the canteen.

Providing opportunities for our pupils to develop their leadership skills has always been of great importance to us at CFS. There are a range of opportunities across both phases, including Sports Leaders, Playground Leaders, Beat Bullying Ambassadors, Librarians and House Champions. As well as this, pupil voice is also so important to us – enabling our pupils to reflect on their experiences both in and out of school and to support us in ensuring that we are supporting them in the best way possible.

For further information about how we approach pupil leadership and pupil voice at CFS, please do have a look on our website page via this link https://www.chichesterfreeschool.org.uk/pupil-voice-and-leadership/ And of course, any opportunity a pupil engages with, will contribute to their CFS passport - https://www.chichesterfreeschool.org.uk/cfs-passport/

This week we are launching the Pupil Ambassador elections. This is open to all pupils from Year 1 up to Year 11 and we ask that parents encourage their children to put themselves forward to be their Primary Class or Secondary Tutor Group Pupil Ambassador for 23-24! Good luck.

Early this morning, the Class of 2023 nervously opened their GCSE results after months – years – of hard work. Smiles, hugs and even a few high fives could be seen across the Carmelite Hall, with pupils, teachers and parents celebrating another year of impressive achievements with utter pride.

It was also a moment to reflect on a very unusual Secondary school experience – these young people experienced the first lockdown in Year 8 and really only had a ‘normal’ school year again in their final year of GCSE studies. Executive Principal, Mrs New, said this morning, ‘I say it every year, but the resilience of our young people makes me utterly proud. The results today are testimony to the hard work of our Year 11 cohort, and of course the relentless support from our wonderful CFS staff. The Class of 2023 have approached these rigorous examinations with good humour and determination, whilst also displaying such kindness towards each other as they navigated the pressures of the last few months and years. After an emotional leavers’ assembly and stunning Prom, today is the icing on the cake – a true celebration of their achievements. Congratulations to them all! But of course, today is just the beginning - I wish all of them every happiness as they move onto pastures new, with many of our pupils leaving us after eight years at CFS.’

Whilst the national context is not yet fully known – our provisional figures show that pupils have made strong progress at CFS. We have also seen notable improvements in several subject areas from previous years, including in Modern Foreign Languages and Drama.

But today was, of course, about the individual pupil results and, as Mr Elliman (Head of Year 11) said, ‘Today I have watched with pride and emotion as young people I have had the pleasure of being Head of Year to for four years have received results that all tell their own individual stories. Positive surprises, success over adversity, personal successes that go even deeper than the numbers on their results slips. For the vast majority their results today have allowed them to make their chosen next step in education and I could not be more delighted for them. I really will miss the Class of 2023!’

Particular successes include Daisy Paget who was awarded seven Grade 9s and two Grade 8s amongst her results and Erin Li is celebrating seven of the top grades. CFS were also celebrating today pupils who have made exceptional progress since the start of Year 7, including Sienna Biscoe, Lucie Connolly, Talia Hall, Poppy Lyne, Ana Pogosian and Max Wright. Congratulations to them all.

24/08/2023

Best of luck to all our pupils receiving their GCSE results today. We can't wait to see you and celebrate all your hard work.

******* Residential trip to France – Paris 2023 *******

Early morning on 4th July Years 7-10 set off for a four-day residential trip to France. We arrived in Dover to catch a ferry on a beautiful sunny morning. Therefore, we had a peaceful crossing!

We arrived in Paris in good time for our first excursions on les bateaux Parisiens, then the next day we visited the Royal Palace of Versailles followed by the climb of the Eiffel Tower. Dinner was in a nice restaurant followed by a walk down the Champs Elysées. On day 3 we visited Parc Astérix: All shows, animations and instructions were in French, I think the pupils understood these pretty well as they had an amazing time. On day 4 our final visit was the museum Le Louvre, pupils were very excited to be able to see the Mona Lisa and wondered why it was such a famous and fascinating painting. Many were asking how much it was worth, priceless obviously!
Everyone had a great time. The pupils learnt so much and put their language skills into practise at every opportunity.

Many thanks to Mr Wallis, Mrs Halton and Mr Newman for their help and support during the trip.

from Mrs Agate MFL teacher and trip leader

Our CCF have just returned from an amazing Summer Camp in Crowborough. The cadets took part in activities such as shotgun, escape rooms, obstacle course, paintball, kayaking, paddle boarding, wall climbing, mountain biking, ambushes, section attacks, basha building, axe throwing and much more. The cadets had an amazing time and progressed well over the week. We even got a silver medal for the escape room competition and a bronze for paintball.

To conclude the week, all those that have passed their basic training were promoted to Cadet Corporals. Our contingent continues to go from strength to strength with cadets that should be immensely proud of all they have achieved this year.
