🇬🇧🇪🇺 10 YEARS AFTER BREXIT… COULD THE UK ONE DAY REJOIN THE EU?
I was here in the UK when the Brexit referendum happened 10 years ago, so seeing Andy Burnham now openly talking about the possibility of the UK going “all the way” and potentially rejoining the European Union feels quite weird.
To be clear: this doesn’t mean the UK is rejoining the EU. Burnham has said that different options are being considered — from staying as things are, to closer arrangements with Europe, and potentially EU membership in the future.
Personally, I know that this wouldn’t affect my family in the same way it might affect others.
My girls are still very young, and we are lucky to have European citizenship within our family. 🇪🇸🇧🇬
I’m Spanish 🇪🇸, my husband is Bulgarian 🇧🇬 so we already have that connection with Europe.
But when I think about the younger generation growing up in the UK, I do think this conversation could feel very different for them.
For young people who grew up after Brexit, the possibility of having easier access to Europe, studying, travelling, working and living across European countries again could be something genuinely exciting.
And maybe that’s one of the most interesting parts of this whole conversation:
what does Europe mean to the next generation?
