We couldn't be prouder of Honor and Cat Black of Maiden Cricket fame. It was amazing having them back at Westbourne House and they brought inspiration by the bucketload.

What a brilliant Summer School Concert! It was a true celebration of music at Westbourne House.

With 19 performances in one evening, our pupils showcased an extraordinary range of talent, from choirs and quartets to swing band and junior brass. Every performance reflected the confidence, commitment and joy that define music-making here.

As Mr Dichmont, Director of Music, commented: “The ethos in the school is hugely supportive of music. Our musical programme is part of the day to day school experience and this brings out the best in our musicians.”

It was such an uplifting evening that captured just how powerfully music shapes school life.

“Thank you for the days,
Those endless days, those sacred days you gave me…”

Today, we came together as a school community to celebrate and thank Mr and Mrs Barker for an extraordinary chapter at Westbourne House: 20 years of dedication, including 15 years of inspirational leadership as Headmaster.

Our pupils shared heartfelt tributes, reflecting on the kindness, guidance and memories that have shaped their time here.

“Mr and Mrs Barker, thank you for the amazing time we’ve had at Westbourne House, for your guidance and all of the lovely memories.”

“Thank you for letting us come into your study for a cup of tea. It made us feel like you were more of a friend than a headteacher. Enjoy your retirement.”

It is often the smallest moments that leave the greatest mark and today was a reminder of just how deeply Mr and Mrs Barker have touched the lives of so many.

Thank you for the days. We won’t forget a single one.

Drama! All Rounder! Year 6 Sport!

Today we celebrate the final amazing three of our 24 scholars of 2026!

We are super proud of:

OT for her Drama Scholarship to Seaford College
OM in Year 6 for his Sammy Woods Exhibition Scholarship to Brighton College (Sport)
AX for his All-Rounder Scholarship to Brighton College

Mr Cousens, Head of Drama, reflected on OT's Drama Scholarship: “We are very proud of OT’s achievement. Pupils enjoy the challenge of preparing for drama scholarships, including being trained in improvisation, sight-reading and creative thinking. OT has gone from strength to strength and we are sure she will light up the stage at Seaford."

Mr Hanley, Head of Boys’ Sport commented on OM's Sport Scholarship: “OM is thoroughly deserving of this award. Since the start of his competitive matches back in Year 3, he has always been passionate about sport. He has developed into a very fine all-rounder and he potentially could have won this award in more than one discipline. However, it was certainly not a surprise that he was awarded it for rugby.”

Reflecting on AX's All-Rounder Scholarship, Headmaster Martin Barker said: "We are a school where every child participates fully, in academics and beyond. The combination of this and energetic teaching empowers our pupils to discover and make the most of their strengths. AX’s incredible achievement of an All-Round scholarship to Brighton College is testament to our approach and his dedication to music, chess and academia. We are very proud of him.”

Launching yourself across the pool with gusto, as the crowd cheers you on, creates a happy spark inside!

Our swimming teachers, who work with children from Nursery upwards, believe in the journey.

Every courageous moment in the pool is celebrated and each child is supported to succeed at every step.

Small moments of bravery grow into lasting confidence, in the pool and in life.

Today’s Year 1 Showcase and Year 2 Gala was a celebration of just that: a shared sense of the wonderful swimming journey at Westbourne House and our children growing in confidence with every stroke.

From first notes to confident performances, our Inter-Patrol Music Competition is about more than music - it’s about growing in courage, creativity, confidence and being part of a team.

We enjoyed 209 performances in one day. Our pupils (Year 3 to Year 8) wowed us with their spirit, playing pieces on cello, clarinet, drums, euphonium, French horn, flute, guitar, oboe, organ, piano, trombone, trumpet, viola, violin, saxophone and voice!

Thank you to our four guest judges - Rich Carter , Alex Goodwin , Andrew Thomas and Julie Twite - for giving every pupil encouraging tips and thoughtful feedback.

"It's wonderful to see the curiosity growing in the children on a trip like this,” said science teacher, Mr Rowe.

Imagine seeing white storks bill-clattering on their nests and flying overhead, a purple emperor butterfly basking in the sun and sticks covered in beavers' teeth marks?

This was a few of many treats in store for our Year 5 scientists when they visited Knepp, a trailblazing 3,500-acre rewilding project in Sussex which has helped introduce these rare species back into the UK.

“The children were fascinated to see in real-life what they have learnt in the classroom. It’s the kind of learning you don’t forget,” science teacher, Mrs Edwards, added.
