I've developed another hands-on workshop — "Beyond the Bolt" — to confront a problem I see too often: We talk about the S-Series, we train on using SX000i… but how often do we apply them to the real-world and relevant failures we face?

This session does exactly that.

It's not just a walkthrough of the specs — it's a case-based investigation that forces participants to bridge the gap between theory and messy reality. We dig into a real IPS failure and ask, "What if we'd done it right from the start?"

Perhaps one of my weaknesses is being such an evidence-based thinker that I simply cannot accept anything at face value, always quietly suspicious of true motivations. I designed this element of the course with a clear focus: bridge the gap between theory and application while challenging the noise and confusing messaging that often surrounds these specifications.

Why it works: Participants are pushed to think critically about data, decision-making, and governance — exploring how a small component failure can expose serious vulnerabilities in a wider data ecosystem.

And ultimately, they experience the pivotal choice for themselves: "Unordered Data & Poor Process is a Choice. Choose Structured Data & Process Governance."

Are the S-Series specifications ready—or should we wait?”

It’s a question I keep hearing. And honestly, it’s a fair one.

Many organisations are right to question the maturity, stability, and real-world applicability of the S-Series. But instead of relying on hearsay, recycled opinions, or overconfident soundbites, I’ve taken a different route:

I’m putting them to the test.

I’m building a realistic, cross-domain project—fictional in name only—designed to reflect the real challenges we face in defence, aerospace, and complex systems support. SX000i acts as the compass, guiding us through the practical application of each S-Series specification across the product lifecycle—from contract to disposal.

But here’s the key difference:
I’m not approaching this as a spec author. I’m doing this from the perspective of someone who has to pick up the specifications today, figure them out quickly, and turn them into something useful and usable—without assumptions or shortcuts.

Through five hands-on scenarios, we explore whether the S-Series can actually help us . We break down the inputs, outputs, connections, and decision points—across domains, teams, and stakeholders.

To bring it to life, students use an interactive dashboard—a guided experience that shows the thinking behind each step, how data structures connect, and how the pieces fit together in practice.

And we don’t stop at the specs.
We carry the project into AI, data analytics, and feedback loops—asking the real question: Can we turn structured data into strategic insight?

This project now forms the foundation of our SX000i and S-Series training—and it’ll be front and centre at this year’s TDW-Live workshop.
