Designed to be fun and interactive, learning as a group as well as individually, sharing experience and making new friends. Your trainer will normally be Rupert Emerson who has sailed round Britain in his own yacht. See Skippering Kippa.

The Westerly Owners Association asked me to do two talks and discussions about sailing round Britain. I was happy to help and then afterwards they kindly asked me to nominate a charity so they could make a donation. I chose the Cornish Seal Sanctuary in Gweek because they need to feed the seals and they have no tourist income. https://www.facebook.com/officialcornishsealsanctuary/
A talk and discussion is being held on zoom on April 17th 2020 at 7.30 pm. Join us with this ID and password and find out about sailing round Britain in a yacht. There is a short slide show and then it is question and answer. Meeting ID: 200 774 250. Password: 504688
I thought I might put a few photos up of harbours. This is St. Ives. Land's End is not too scary a headland, the Lizard is worse, just keep well off the dangers if there is a moderate or rough sea. Once into St. Ives, things are not ideal because the swell is so great. On the quay you are on a roller coaster, better out in the bay in many ways where you can rock up and down with a snubbed anchor. On the other hand the town is still lovely despite being a tourist trap. It retains an artistic temperament as well as a Cornish character. If you find yourself in very settled weather you can take the inner passage and pass Black Knight rock as shown.

Bart's Bash
That’s crazy talk!! 5,000 sailors now enrolled in the same race! From more than 592 separate boat classes so far!! In 60 countries! In 671 venues! Across every one of the 6 inhabited continents! This is going to be the most inclusive sailing event the world has ever seen – and the largest. Ever!!!
To celebrate this fantastic milestone you better listen up, because we are upping the game for all our fundraisers….
We think you are all totally brilliant and we are so, so grateful for all that you have done so far that we want to throw another little surprise your way. Are you ready?
Here we go…
Iain Percy has said that he will personally pay to fly 2 people out to San Fransisco for a 3 night, 4 day trip including £500 spending money and a trip to look around Artemis Racing and have a sail on an AC45!! BOOM!! We got your attention now?? I will repeat….
One of you is going to fly, with a friend or responsible adult, to San Fransisco courtesy of Bart’s best friend, Iain Percy OBE, and tour the Artemis base with him, including sailing on an AC45. Crackers!! The big question is, what do you have to do to be in with a shot at the prize?
Well, to be in with a chance of winning this magnificent ‘money can’t buy’ reward as a guest of Artemis skipper Iain, all you have to do is raise enough money (up until the end of the 21st October 2014, UK time) to earn a bronze medal. That’s £150. Just £150!! Everyone who raises and donates the £150 or more to become a bronze medal fundraiser through their Just Giving account not only gets a physical medal to keep and show off forever, but they will also be entered into the prize draw to win this amazing ‘You plus 1’ prize. Now if that’s not BOSH we don’t know what is!
But that’s not all!! For the super ambitious among you, there is an incentive to reach the pinnacle – the Gold Medal. We are announcing today that every individual who raises and donates enough money to reach the ‘Gold Medal Fundraiser’ status in our rewards program will be guaranteed a ticket to attend a champagne reception to celebrate the 1st ‘Rookie’ Bart’s Bash global race hosted by Sir Ben Ainslie, Iain Percy and their friends.
To be a Gold Medal fundraiser you need to achieve a fundraising target of £1000 and as with the entry into the prize draw, you will have until midnight on October 21st UK time to reach your goal. What are you waiting for? Let’s get on it!!
We honestly are as excited as all of you about this race – we are all up against each other and will be able to say that we were a part of one of the most ambitious and exciting sports event in a long time. That’s why we want you to have these prizes to aim at, and we are so grateful for all of your support and encouragement so far. We wish you all the best, and can’t wait to see you reaching those medal targets and making yourself eligible for prizes. ONWARDS!!!
If you have a great masthead photo, please share it.
