Christmas Shopping Day - Friday 8th December

The most exciting day of our festive season.

Shopping lists are in your child’s book bags, please complete these and return them to school on Friday, along with a named bag, wrapping paper, gift tags and lots of loose change in a named purse.

The children love choosing their gifts and then carefully wrapping them with help from our Christmas Elves.

Parents are welcome to visit the Christmas shop at the end of the day and purchase gifts that are still available.

Mrs Coe has spent an enormous amount of time receiving and sorting your donations and organising Jolly Jam Jar day. If you can be a Christmas elf even if just for a short period of time please look for Mrs Coe on the playground or pop into the office.

“It’s Beginning to Look a lot like Christmas”!
Compton elves set to work on Friday evening and decorated the school hall.

A huge thank you to the Stansted Estate for their kind generosity in gifting us this beautiful tree.

Thank you to everyone who joined us today for our Christingle service in St Mary’s Church, it was lovely to see so many people.

Please return the money box for the Children’s Society on Monday. Every donation big or small will be gratefully received.

Bishop Johannes de Watteville first began the tradition of Christingle in 18th century Germany.

He wanted to get the message of Advent across to children and remind them that Jesus brought light into the world, so he gave each child in his congregation a candle attached to an orange.

In 1968, John Pensom introduced Christingle to Church of England services, upgrading the Christingle to include dried fruits or sweets and raising money for the Children’s Society during Christingle services.

Owls and Hedgehogs have Doodledance tomorrow, please ask them to wear their PE Kit to school.
This session replaces one that was postponed a few weeks ago, Doodledance will continue to take place every Friday (including this week).

We are in full swing for our Christmas festivities. Remember to return your photograph orders tomorrow morning along with Pantomime slips and requests for Nativity tickets.

Jolly Jam Jar day is Friday, Hedgehogs 🦔 and Owls 🦉 are asked to wear their PE Kit. Foxes and Buzzards can wear warm, sensible home clothes if they wish in return for a Jolly Jam Jar or two!

Bethan has limited spaces available at her beautiful wreath making workshops. These are held in school tomorrow evening (Tuesday) and Wednesday this week. Please contact Bethan direct for further information.

If you have Christmas jumpers that no longer fit your own children consider donating them to school. The Friends are holding a Christmas Jumper sale to raise funds for our school.

Christmas shopping day is looming, thank you for your donations received so far, we will happily receive these on a Thursday morning in the school office.

If you are able to help the children with their Christmas shopping and wrapping for part of or the whole day see Jacqui on the playground or pop into the office.
Your help and support is always appreciated.

As always please contact the office if you have any questions or queries.

Don’t forget that we are supporting ‘Children in Need’ tomorrow by wearing non school uniform - even better if you have something dotty to wear!
Donations can be made via ParentPay.

Well done to Leo who stood proudly alongside dignitaries from Stansted House and military representatives today, remembering those that gave their lives so that we may live.

The grass is definitely greener on our side of the school fence! Even the local sheep enjoy our Forest School corner. Our children get to use this area most days for imaginative play and learning.
Don’t worry she was soon rounded up by a local shepherd and returned to her own flock.

Sunday 19th November, Family Service.

What a beautiful morning for our Whole School Walk, the sun shone and the children thoroughly enjoyed themselves.
Thank you to our volunteers who came along and helped.

One of the Compton traditions is our Whole School Walk early in the new academic year.
As part of World Mental Health week we love nothing better than taking all the staff and pupils out of the classroom and exploring the footpaths around the village of Compton.

Remember to wear home clothes, long trousers and sleeves, wrap up warm with sturdy footwear.
Bring a drink in a small rucksack and if you’re in KS2 a healthy snack for our half way rest.

A change of shoes for the classroom upon our return would be appreciated.

Well done to our Y5 & 6’s who this afternoon took part in a football tournament at Midhurst Rother College.
Competing against other local primary schools we came 3rd out of 14 teams!
Only loosing one game 1-0 in the Semi Final against the team who went on to come first, this was a close game and the result wasn’t to be ours. We were unbeaten in all our other matches!

Thank you to the parents who helped with the transport today, we could not take part in these tournaments without your support.

Finally to Mr Cain our PE coordinator who ensures that we have enough players for each event, these events require a mix of boys and girls from KS2.

A reminder that we have lots of lovely events to look forward to at Compton and Up Marden CE School. We finish this half term with our Whole School Walk, taking in the beautiful South Downs with amazing views over the village of Compton and a disco organised by the wonderful PTA - The Friends. We commence the next term with lots of exciting trips, workshops, visitors and the most exciting of all, our lead up to Christmas.
Please check your children’s book bags regularly and give consent when required on ParentPay as soon as possible.

Thank you!

KS1 had an amazing day in Portsmouth yesterday with outstanding behaviour! We looked out for ferries and hovercrafts to the Isle of Wight and we even saw a Brittany ferry! They particularly enjoyed the splashes from the hovercraft and dipping their feet in the sea! They followed the Millennium Walkway (chain path) from Gunwharf all the way to the Hovercraft terminal.

They have enjoyed learning about all of the small islands we can find around the British Islands (including the Channel Islands, Isles of Scilly, Isle of Man and Shetland Islands) this week.

Everyone at Compton and Up Marden CE School would like to extend our heartfelt thanks for the very kind donation from The Friends of St Michael’s church, Up Marden.

Last week we had installed a new reflection area which has been sited alongside the playground, this will be used for quiet reflection time and outdoor assemblies, we are going to call it ‘The Barn’.

Today Sally from The Friends of St Michaels joined us along with Mr Mynors who led our whole school assembly in prayers and blessings for our new building.

With the purchase of this building we were gifted outdoor play equipment for our smaller pupils to use, these blocks will help to develop their growth motor skills, balance, independence and collaborative play.

We have also purchased a new overhead projector for the school hall. This equipment will be used daily by Compton pupils for assemblies, lessons, school performances etc.
We also ‘let’ the school hall to local community groups who will also benefit from the new projector, Compton Film Club, local speakers and families that hire the hall for private events.

On behalf of all of us – thank you

Come and visit us on Friday 3rd November between 9.00am - 10.30am.
