Recently the children have been very interested in the birds that fly over the garden in Main Montessori. We often stand on the climbing frame bridge to watch the birds in the tree above, as well as watching them go in and out of the bird house.

Today, we finally caught a bird on camera using our bird house. We saw them fly in then we waited really patently and quietly for it to come out again. From these videos we also managed to capture some action shots!

Some name suggestions for this bird were: Elsa, Spiderman, Fred, Angel, Rose and Birdie

Just a few quick snapshots of some sensory trays that the children have enjoyed exploring recently in mini and main Montessori.

A great way to explore the senses 👀👃🫲👅

We recently focused on numbers and shapes for our number/maths day in main Montessori.

The children looked and focused on numeral and quantity, searching for the number and the quantity in a rice sensory tray and looked at shapes in the environment. The children also enjoyed measuring items in the garden with tape measures and measuring themselves.

The children in the main unit also enjoyed exploring songs with numbers in and sharing these with their friends, from '1..2..3..4..5 once i caught a fish alive' to 'five little ducks'.

Pancake day celebrations in Mini and Main Montessori and the children loved it !

Children helped to make and taste pancakes and got to try different toppings !

Main Montessori explored Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon!

The children had opportunities to explore Chinese noodles, prawn crackers and stir fry! it was yummy!

They explored Chinese New Year stories, opportunities to try and experiment with Chinese numerals and mark making in sensory trays and looking at making fortune cookies in our art area.

We even explored using chop sticks and dressing up in some traditional bamboo hats called Liangmao !

Chinese New Year and the Year of the Dragon at Chichester Montessori saw Mini Montessori exploring colours, sharing stories on Chinese New Year and Chinese food tasting. We loved the noodles!

We engaged our senses and explored texture and taste with our food testing and sensory tray.🐉🐲

We were colour matching in Mini Montessori ! Looking at size, colour and the marks we can make in the cornflour, we had a great time!🟧🟨🟩🟦🟪🟥

Mini Montessori have been exploring some new treasure and sensory baskets ! We have lots of sensory experiences for the children in Mini Montessori to explore, from hard to soft and rough to smooth!

These baskets provide babies and young children with a wide range of objects, that they can self select, that stimulate the senses and that are safe to handle and explore in different ways. By experiencing these objects using all of their senses, babies and children begin to find out how things work, what they like and how to make
choices.

The children love exploring the marks they can make in mini Montessori!
