“I’ve heard about this Employment Rights Act thing… but I’m not sure what it means for us.”

Here’s the honest answer: it depends on your business. But there are some changes every employer with staff needs to understand.

The big one? Unfair dismissal protection.

Right now, employees need 2 years’ service before they can bring an unfair dismissal claim.

From January 2027, that drops to just 6 months.

⚠️ This isn’t just about new hires. It applies to your existing team too.

That means probationary periods need to be properly structured. Performance issues need addressing early. Documentation needs to be in place from day one.

It’s not about being harsh with people. It’s about having the right conversations at the right time — with a clear process behind you.

Honestly I’m feeling all the feels today as the kids would say.

This week I feel like I have achieved a hell of a lot - ERA seminars to nearly 60 new businesses, amazing new connections made, finishing off a DSAR 🫠, new grievance as well as a couple of settlement discussions.

Then finishing off today with our biggest ever Last Friday Club - Chichester meet up and announcing our crowd funded for our Festival of Business. Details to follow.
