Little Blue Door started from the belief that children learn and grow in an environment that feels like a home from home; a place that is friendly, warm and welcoming and somewhere that you neither want to leave nor wait to get back to. Our brand new nursery space has been purpose built and centred around wellness and proved theories of child development. With four unique classrooms and a lovely o

๐ŸŽถ No instruments? No problem! ๐ŸŽถ

You donโ€™t need expensive toys to explore rhythm and sound with your little ones. In fact, some of the best musical instruments are already sitting in your recycling bin and kitchen drawers! ๐Ÿฅโœจ

Making DIY instruments at home isnโ€™t just budget-friendly; itโ€™s a fantastic sensory experience. While they are shaking, tapping, and scratching, little ones are secretly building:

Fine Motor Skills - pinching rubber bands or gripping spoons ๐Ÿ–๏ธ

Cause and Effect - โ€œIf I shake this harder, it gets louder!โ€ ๐Ÿง

Rhythm and Language - matching beats to words and syllables ๐Ÿ—ฃ๏ธ

Quick ideas to try this weekend:

Scratching a sieve with a spoon ๐Ÿฅ„

Using saucepans as drums ๐Ÿฅ

Making homemade shakers with rice or lentils ๐Ÿซ™

Ready to get making? Weโ€™ve put together a list of our favorite, easy-to-build musical crafts on the blog today.

๐Ÿ–๏ธ๐Ÿš The Beach: Natureโ€™s Ultimate Sensory Room! ๐Ÿš๐Ÿ–๏ธThere is nothing quite like a trip to the British seaside with little ones. But did you know that a day out on the coast is secretly a massive boost for their development? When little ones play at the beach, they are working hard on so many key milestones:๐Ÿ’ช Gross Motor Skills: Walking, running, and balancing on uneven sand uses completely different muscles! ๐Ÿง  Early Science & Maths: Exploring cause and effect by adding seawater to dry sand. They quickly learn that wet sand sticks together to make a sandcastle, while dry sand slips through their fingers! ๐Ÿ–๏ธ Fine Motor Strength: Scooping up pebbles, picking up tiny seashells, and digging with spades builds hand and finger strength (perfect preparation for holding pencils later on!) Plus nothing beats the feeling of dipping your toes in the sea. ๐ŸŒŠ
