🌟 Where Has the Year Gone? 🌟

As another academic year draws to a close, we wanted to take a moment to say a heartfelt thank you to everyone who has supported Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre this year. 💙

To the parents who have placed their trust in us, the children and young people who have worked so incredibly hard and the teachers and professionals we've had the pleasure of working alongside - thank you. It has truly been a privilege to be part of your journey. 🌱✨

📈 A Growing Demand for Assessments
This year has seen continued growth in demand for our full diagnostic dyslexia assessments. We are delighted that more parents are seeking support and gaining a better understanding of their child’s learning needs.

🔍 Looking Ahead
To ensure we can continue to provide high-quality diagnostic dyslexia assessments, the Centre will be expanding its assessment services. As part of this change, our specialist teaching provision will no longer be available from September 2026. We understand this may be a significant change for some families and we would like to express our sincere gratitude for the support you have shown our teaching services over the years.

📅 Assessment Bookings
Due to the high demand for our services, bookings for diagnostic dyslexia assessments are now being taken for December 2026. If you have been considering a dyslexia assessment for yourself or your child we warmly encourage you to get in touch.
Booking early will help ensure appointments are available before 2027.

Navigating the new SEND reforms?

Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre can help your school feel confident and prepared. We offer practical guidance, SEND reviews, staff training, and specialist advice to strengthen provision for learners with dyslexia.

As a parent are you concerned about your child's progress at school? Does your child struggle with reading, spelling, writing or remembering things? Have your child's teachers expressed concerns relating to these areas? Reach out to Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre for support to ensure the best outcomes for your child. Here is a review from a parent whose child recently accessed the Centre:-

“I can’t recommend Mary enough if you are needing a full dyslexia assessment for your child. My son was quite anxious and teary about the whole situation with not knowing what to expect but was soon put at ease with Mary’s calm, gentle approach to it all. He actually really enjoyed it and says it didn’t really feel like an assessment. The report we then received with his diagnosis (faster than expected) was very thorough and Mary gave lots of feedback etc.
This can now be passed onto school and hopefully my son will start to find school a little easier. Thanks again Mary”

Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre offers:-

Diagnostic Dyslexia assessments (8+) - cost £500. If a diagnosis of Dyslexia is given the report can be used for DSA purposes. The report will also contain recommendations to support your child at home and school. The centre offers a pre and post assessment telephone conversation within this package. Please note the calendar for the Spring Term is currently full and bookings are now being taken from July 2026 onwards. However, there is a cancellation list, so there is the possibility of an earlier date being offered.

Learning Assessments (5+) which cover word reading, spelling, comprehension and maths computation - cost £150. Limited slots available.

Exam Access Arrangement Testing - note that the assessor must have a working relationship with the child's school/college - cost £75.

Specialist Teaching - please note there are currently no 1-1 specialist teaching slots available.

SEND support for SENCO's and parents - cost dependent on the level of support needed.

Another parent review this week which reflects the impact of one of our services. Navigating the SEND system can be difficult but Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre can support you. Together with one family last week we met with the Head of SEND for Derbyshire and the decision not to assess for an EHCP was overturned.

“I wanted to express my sincere thanks to Mary at Derbyshire Dyslexia Centre for her help with the EHCP process for my son. She was very knowledgeable and supportive, and made a difficult process much easier to navigate.

Mary took the time to explain things clearly and answered all my questions, which was a huge relief. She also worked hard to ensure that my son's needs were understood and met, and I'm grateful for her efforts.
