Today is International Youth Day, which raises awareness of the challenges and opportunities facing young people around the world.
Young people in the Bolsover district have a wealth of opportunities available to them, via various agencies, including Bolsover District Council.
Alongside local schools and the authority's Youth Council, there are organisations like Junction Arts, Boza youth Inc., Direct Education Business Partnership, Platform Thirty1, Bolsover Community and Voluntary Service, amongst others who are all doing their bit to help our young people shine.
A creative consultation event for Bolsover district young people aged 12 to 17 is taking place at Creative Connections, 1 Wycliffe Road, Alfreton from 10am-4pm on Tuesday 18 August.

You brought incredible energy and enthusiasm, and it was fantastic to see so many of you getting involved — from trying out peer researcher skills, to learning about the youth forum, to being part of a live production team 🎤🎬 There’s so much talent in Bolsover!

Last week, many of the DEBP team came together for a team walk, travelling on the DEBP minibus to Baslow, before walking to Chatsworth and enjoying refreshments in the Courtyard Cafe.

It was a lovely get-together in the sunshine ☀️

Students from The Beech Academy took part in a fantastic East Midlands Combined County Authority Open Doors visit to the Veolia Mansfield Materials Recovery Facility (MRF).

Students learnt all about recycling and took part in a range of hands-on recycling activities. They learned how to recycle at home and what happens to recyclable waste across Nottinghamshire when it arrives at the MRF, where it is sorted into different types using a mixture of manual and automated methods.

Students also discovered what happens to the materials after they have been sorted and sent on to reprocessors and manufacturers, where they are used to make new products. Students were then given a tour of the MRF site, allowing them to see the process from start to finish. The visit ended with an informative session on the wide range of careers available at Veolia.

We were delighted to attend the East Midlands Connected Futures Employer Forum at Clumber Park NT, hosted by the National Trust.

The forum brought together employers and partners from across the region to share insights, ideas and experiences around inclusive recruitment, retention and progression. It was great to hear from organisations committed to improving employment outcomes for young people with learning disabilities and/or autism spectrum conditions.

Yesterday we held a fantastic Modern Day of Work Experience event with Year 10 students at Friesland School in Nottingham.

The event allowed students to gain valuable insights into a wide range of careers, hear first-hand experiences from industry experts, and explore the skills needed for the world of work.

Students from The Bolsover School Official, Westbury Academy and High Grange School went on an exciting East Midlands Combined County Authority Open Doors visit to Rolls-Royce plc.

After a warm welcome, students put their skills to the test in a virtual welding challenge. There was plenty of healthy competition as everyone aimed for the highest score, although our DEBP representative finished at the bottom of the leaderboard! 😂

Students then worked collaboratively to build LEGO robots and use coding to make them move. The visit concluded with an informative tour of the Skills Academy, providing valuable insight into future careers and training opportunities within the sector.
