Popular Stand Road bonfire night event in Chesterfield cancelled after “difficult decision” from council A busy Chesterfield bonfire night event has been postponed two days before it was set to take place after a “difficult decision” for the council.
We had a blast on our last Y5 FS session...
Have an amazing week off and see you in November!
Year 1 have been learning so much in music this half term!
We have learnt all about the pulse of a song and have practiced keeping the pulse with body percussion.
We've even tried using untuned percussion to keep the pulse through songs! We are still loving our nursery rhymes that we learnt last year but we're also learning new songs all the time. Just look at the concentration on their faces! 🎵 Well done Year 1, you are all stars.
We look forward to your comments, but please don't name our children :)
Year 4 Creative Homework
This term Year 4 have been learning all about Romans and were challenged to make something to do with the topic Romans.
They have done a great job and we are really pleased with what the children have produced. Well done!
(We love you to comment on posts, but please remember to help us safeguard all our children, don't use their names. Thanks 😉)
Yesterday, we were very excited to welcome a special guest to the Year 3 classroom.
We have been learning all about rocks, fossils and soils in our science topic this term and it just so happens that Mrs Peace (one of our parents) is a real expert on this subject and works for a quarrying company, recreating landscapes after the ground has been dug up by quarrying.
She came in yesterday and taught us all about layers of the soil, from top soil, subsoil down to the material being quarried in the bedrock. She set up a fantastic activity, where children could re-enact the process of digging deep into the ground and then showed us how the earth is protected and replaced when work is complete.
Thanks so much for coming in- the children loved the session and learnt so much!

Can we say a massive welcome to our new spelling bee leader, Mrs Beeston (and of course, her little worker bee helper) 🐝
The children in Reception enjoyed a little Autumn walk this morning. They enjoyed finding lots of Autumn coloured leaves and some conkers 😊
We were then very excited to find a whole family of ladybirds with our collection when we returned back to the classroom to explore our finds 🐞 🍁
We love to read your comments but please do not name our children, thank you 😊
Today we had an athlete come and visit our school. The children were involved in an inspirational assembly with Mica McNeill, followed by a fitness circuit session.
The children in reception loved every second and did a super job! Well done everyone 👏🏻

Well, today we finally finished our Greek vases!
The children have had so much fun: paper macheing (twice), painting terracotta and then decorating with their Greek design. I hope you agree that they look amazing. Well done Y5. 👏
We look forward to your comments, but please don't name our children - thanks.
Year 2 loved our visit from Mica McNeill today.

This term, Year 3 have been learning all about The Stone Age and finding out how different life was over 5,000 years ago.
They have done a fantastic job on their creative homeworks. From Stone Age jewellery, to stone henge models, to Stone Age shelters and tools, weapons, models and much more!
Thank you for helping children to engage with this topic at home and I hope they have enjoyed learning all about prehistoric life.

Hello everyone!
We hope you loved our visit from Mica McNeill today and did your best in the fitness circuit.
Can I just say a massive THANK YOU for all your amazing fundraising! As a school we raised an enormous £1,400, which will support Team GB athletes in their training and fund new sports equipment in school. The school council will be choosing how to spend this money to encourage active play and lunchtimes.
Children who raised £35 or over, had a photo with Mica, which will be on its way to you as soon as we have them posted back.
Children who raised £15-35 will receive an autographed poster tomorrow.
Children who raised £5-15 will receive an athlete postcard tomorrow.
Everyone received a sticker today.
Most importantly, thank you all for taking part, trying your best and for listening so well in Mica's assembly about healthy lifestyles and aiming high!

What amazingly, delicious creative homework we've received today. Our topic is WW11 and these yummy treats were made with traditional recipes and rations! 👏
WEATHER UPDATE - Due to the extreme weather that we are experiencing, please feel free to collect your child from 1pm from the main entrance. We will however keep school open until the end of the school day. Many thanks for your support.
Good morning...
Unfortunately, we have made the decision to cancel Forest School today (20/10) due to the terrible weather conditions that are forecast all day. 🌧 However, please tell your children not to be too disappointed, as we'll do Forest School next Friday instead. We wouldn't usually cancel for rain, but with the weather warning and the option of next Friday, we hope you and the children understand.
Thanks you!
Year 5 Ancient Greece. Part 2: Greek Alphabet & Food Tasting! 🇬🇷

👩🏻🔬Year 1 are being super scientists this half term and are learning all about everyday materials. 👨🏼🔬
Last week, we investigated which materials were waterproof and learnt all about fair testing and recording results.
Today, the children created their own investigations to determine which material would be the best material for a windscreen. They quickly decided the material had to be transparent and so devised a variety of ways to group the materials into transparent and opaque. Fantastic work Year 1!
We look forward to your comments, but please don't name our children 😊
Year 5 Ancient Greece. Part 1: Greek Day! 🇬🇷
Year 5 have had a wonderful half term immersing themselves in the world of Ancient Greece.
They enjoyed dressing up as Ancient Greeks, and spent the day learning all about Ancient Greek life as a hoplite; fought a war between Athens and Sparta; tried on armour and explored a range of artefacts, before retelling the story of ‘The Odyssey’.
Please finally enjoy seeing what we got up to!
We love you to comment on posts, but please remember to help us safeguard all our children, don't use their names. Thank you.
Our Bronze Ambassadors have had training in organising sports competitions, capturing photos and videos, gathering ‘pupil voice’ in surveys, team building games, interviewing athletes, and trying out some new sports/ games. Hopefully, they’re inspired to bring some friendly competition and ideas for being active back into school life.

Year 3 went to the library yesterday as part of Black History Month, to learn about significant historical events, from bus boycotts, to civil rights protests in America, to modern day anti racism campaigns. This was organised by the African and Caribbean Association in Chesterfield. It gave us lots to think about and gave us a much better understanding of how important it is to treat all people with respect and dignity. Thank you to Councillor Ludwig Ramsey for talking to us and answering our many questions!

Meet Abercrombie’s new Science Ambassadors! These six young science enthusiasts are very excited to be taking on the responsibility of leading science in our school. Keep your eyes peeled this year to see what they get up to!
Our topic for this half term is Ancient Greece. To link this with art, we are making Greek vases. Mrs Gratton, in her madness, decided to create these using paper mache and balloons.
We've had lots of messy fun, but so far they look amazing!
We look forward to your comments, but please don't name our children - thanks.
We've had such a great day today at a very windy Forest School! 🌬
We enjoyed Base-Camp, climbed Mount Gratton (numerous times) and even managed flint & steel, sheath-knives, bow saws and bill-hooks. Well done Y5! 👏
We look forward to your comments, but please don't name our children - thanks.
