Yesterday, Y5 took us on an incredible journey across North America, inspired by the book Queen of the Falls all about the daring life of Annie Edson Taylor—the brave teacher who became the first person to survive going over Niagara Falls in a barrel! Year 5 the children got hands-on with playdough and craft supplies to bring Scotland's physical features to life! They sculpted 3D terrain maps while completing targeted challenges: positioning the River Clyde beside Glasgow, adding a flag to show Ben Nevis's height in metres, shaping the River Tay as the largest river, creating a fast-flowing river filled with salmon, and modeling Loch Lomond and Loch Ness while learning that a "loch" is a Scottish lake.

Our Headteacher, David Girvan, has been named a finalist for Inspirational Male Leader of the Year at the 2026 Crème de la Crème Cheshire Business Awards.

Those who know The Firs will know that David's leadership isn't about being the loudest person in the room. It's about knowing our children, being there for our families and staff, and creating a school where kindness, ambition and mutual respect are part of everyday life.

From greeting pupils in the morning to celebrating the big achievements (and all those important little moments in between) David leads The Firs with warmth, integrity and a genuine belief in every child.

So we're absolutely delighted to see him recognised amongst Cheshire's inspirational leaders. Congratulations, Mr Girvan – the whole Firs family is very proud of you!
