🏃‍♂️ On Saturday, we were delighted to welcome Shaun to the University of Chester as part of his incredible 100-mile run in memory of his friend Aaron.

Shaun is visiting universities along his journey to raise awareness of meningitis and the importance of vaccination. It was a privilege to support his journey, hear Aaron’s story and help spread such an important message. 💙

Wishing Shaun all the best for the rest of his challenge — 100 miles for Aaron. 🏃‍♂️💙

You can find out more about Aaron’s legacy and support the cause here: https://linktr.ee/aaronlovemillslegacy

🧠 Did you know? Meningitis can become life-threatening within hours, and university students can be at increased risk due to close contact with others.

💉 Make sure your meningitis vaccinations are up to date and check whether you’re eligible for the MenB vaccine.

If you’re eligible, you can book your MenB vaccination through the NHS:
https://www.nhs.uk/nhs-services/vaccination-and-booking-services/book-a-menb-vaccination-appointment/

Protect yourself. Know the signs. Get vaccinated.

We often talk about lifelong learning, but Alex is a brilliant example of what that looks like in practice.
Alongside leading our laboratories, Alex has successfully completed the NEBOSH Diploma for Occupational Health and Safety Management Professionals, culminating in a well-deserved graduation ceremony this week.
Investing in professional development helps us create safer, stronger and more effective learning environments for our students and staff, and this achievement is a fantastic example of that commitment.
Congratulations, Alex. We are all proud of you.

👋 Meet Lucy, our newest Medical Science lecturer!

With over 10 years of NHS experience as an HCPC-registered Biomedical Scientist, Lucy brings valuable real-world clinical experience to our Biomedical Science teaching team.

Lucy’s special interests include histopathology, patient-centred healthcare and improving cancer detection. Her clinical experience will help students connect what they learn in the classroom and laboratory with how biomedical science contributes to real patient care and diagnosis.

We’re looking forward to Lucy sharing her knowledge, experience and insights!

Welcome to the team, Lucy! 🔬🧬

🧬 Women in Science: Irène Joliot-Curie

Each month, we celebrate a woman whose work has helped shape the world of science.

This month, we’re celebrating Irène Joliot-Curie, a pioneering chemist whose research into artificial radioactivity transformed our understanding of radioactive elements. Her groundbreaking work earned her the Nobel Prize in Chemistry in 1935, continuing the remarkable scientific legacy of her mother, Marie Curie.

Join us next month as we continue celebrating the women whose discoveries and contributions continue to inspire future generations of scientists. 🔬
