I’ve been putting Heidi (Bernina) through her paces with some really fine, detailed free-motion stitching — and she certainly didn’t disappoint!
A little YSL-inspired fashion illustration, built up from the simplest pieces of fabric and then brought to life entirely with free-motion stitching. Those tiny gathers, buttons and ridiculously fiddly cuffs were an absolute joy to stitch.

A little flock coming together… 🐑
Appliqué placement, a bit of free-motion stitching and then the finished cushion.
I love watching all those simple little fabric shapes suddenly acquire their own personalities once the stitching goes on.
And yes… choosing which sheep gets which fabric is absolutely a serious business! 😁

A very little washing day… 🧺🧵🌸
Tiny dresses, dungarees, socks and even a handbag and hat! All stitched freehand and hanging out to dry.
I may have got slightly carried away making these… but once you start creating a miniature wardrobe, it’s very difficult to stop!

First little free-motion practice on my Bernina… and oh my goodness, she’s a dream!
No drawing, no marking — just stitching completely freehand and seeing where the thread takes me.
A tiny blue gingham dress seemed the perfect place to start… very first-day-at-school!
I think I'm going to get along very nicely with this beautiful machine.

And here she is… finished (plus a pink one I made earlier too🤭!)
From a bundle of beautiful fabric strips to a finished pleated cushion. I absolutely love the texture created simply by folding, zigzagging and stitching down each strip.
Made using the gorgeous Winter Wonderland fabric collection by Cassandra Connolly for Lewis & Irene — such a lovely mix of soft greens, wintery greys and gentle neutrals. 🤍
And a little milestone too… my Bernina's very first finished project!
I think she and I are going to get along rather well. 😁
