A thank you from the organisers of the Aikido Festival in North West and North Wales Aikido:

Our First AIKIDO Festival North West and North Wales September 2026

The idea of an AIKIDO Festival came from our experience in Japan. We attended a regional AIKIDO Festival in Nerima, Tokyo Metropolitan area. Practitioners from different organisations and clubs demonstrated their AIKIDO followed by an open class for all to share AIKIDO practise.

The format chosen for the North West and North Wales AIKIDO Festival was different since we did not include demonstrations. Most clubs delegated an instructor. Wai, Keith, Simon, Karolina, Max and Andy provided an interesting mix of AIKIDO. An amazing breadth of experience and interpretation. We studied some techniques, kokyu, relaxing the arms, moving from the centre without using muscle power. Of course, this followed up by a quick social get together in the local pub.

This event was so successful largely due to the enthusiastic participation of all involved. The festival was supported by the instructors, the seniors, the clubs and of course the practitioners attending and sharing their AIKIDO. Since we had so much positive feedback we hope to repeat this next year.

Gudrun Rieck.

🥋 Junior Aikido at Chester Aikido Club! 🥋

Looking for an activity that builds more than just fitness? Aikido is a Japanese martial art built on harmony. Instead of fighting strength with strength, young people learn to move, blend and redirect. They learn to fall safely and roll with confidence, which is a skill that stays with them for life. They also develop balance, coordination and focus in a fun, supportive setting.

It isn't competitive, so everyone moves at their own pace and takes pride in their own progress. Respect is part of every class. We bow at the start and finish, look after our training partners, and learn that being calm and in control is the real strength.
