🍂 Safe to be ourselves. Safe to grow. Safe to learn.

Our new Infant and Junior whole-school display is already looking wonderful - and it will evolve throughout the year as the seasons change.

But this first display tells us something particularly important. Alongside their own leaves, our children have added words about what they enjoy about IJS and how being here makes them feel.

One word came through particularly strongly: safe.

At school, safety is about so much more than a perimeter fence or a set of rules. It is about feeling emotionally and physically safe; knowing you are listened to, cared for and valued; and having the confidence to be yourself, try new things, make mistakes and learn.

Because when children feel safe, they are free to grow. And that feeling of safety really does unlock the door to everything else. 💚

We love seeing our children’s voices quite literally become part of the fabric of our school.

🏐 And today, it’s netball!

Following yesterday’s ISA North U16 Football Tournament, we are delighted to welcome ten visiting schools to Saighton Grange today for the ISA North U13 Netball Tournament.

Our courts are buzzing with competitive sport, great teamwork and plenty of energy as teams from across the region take to the court.

We’re delighted to be hosting another fantastic day of ISA North sport at Abbey Gate College. A very warm welcome to all our visiting schools, and best of luck to every team! 🏐

What's next? Let's find out...
This evening, we’re looking forward to welcoming students to this year’s Careers Fair, with a fantastic range of employers, universities, organisations and members of our wider College community joining us to share their experiences and offer a glimpse into the many different paths available beyond school.

From the Royal Navy and Army to University of Staffordshire, and businesses including Altimex and Roston’s, alongside parents, friends and Old Saightonians, there will be plenty of people to meet and questions to ask.

It’s a great opportunity for our students to explore possibilities, discover careers they may not have considered and start thinking about where their own interests could take them.

We’re looking forward to a busy evening of conversations, questions and perhaps a few unexpected career ideas along the way.

🍂 Autumn scientists at work! 🍎

Yesterday, Infant 1 headed out into the village with Mrs Travis for a Signs of Autumn walk, turning the world around them into their very own science investigation.

The children became scientists as they recorded their findings and categorised what they discovered, and meteorologists as they explored the changing Autumn weather.

There were plenty of exciting discoveries along the way, but the yellow-leaved tree on the village green and the fallen crab apples were particular favourites! 🍎🍂

A lovely way to take learning beyond the classroom and see science happening all around us.

⚽🏐 A sporting double-header at Saighton Grange!

We are absolutely delighted to be hosting the ISA North U16 Football Tournament today, welcoming six schools to Saighton Grange for a superb afternoon of football.

And tomorrow, we go again! We will be hosting the ISA North U13 Netball Tournament, with ten schools joining us for another fantastic day of competitive sport.

It is a pleasure to welcome schools from across the region to Abbey Gate College, and we hope everyone enjoys their time with us.

🔥 A day in 1666!

Infant 2 recently stepped back in time for a fabulous visit to Staircase House, immersing themselves in life during the Great Fire of London.

Taking on roles including Samuel Pepys and King Charles II, the pupils retold the dramatic events of 1666 as they explored the historic building.

They also discovered how houses were constructed in the 17th century, getting stuck into making their own wattle and daub panels and designing fire marks.

A brilliant hands-on history lesson - and one that certainly brought the past to life! 📜🔥

A little sunshine, fresh air and plenty of green-fingered care for J5! 🌱

The class have been out and about watering the plants around the College, as well as tending to their seedlings in the greenhouse at Nature’s Nursery.

Each class takes a turn on our gardening rota, helping to care for the plants and watching their seedlings grow.

It’s a lovely way for our pupils to get hands-on with nature and take pride in looking after our green spaces. 🌿💚

Huge congratulations! We have a wonderful connection with the Cathedral Choir, and many of our students have come through the ranks our are still very active members. Great to see Lucie joining a fantastic bunch!

At Evensong yesterday, we promoted three new girl choristers, and a new head chorister!

Congratulations to Adrianna, Molly, Lucie and Reika, we're very proud of your hard work!

Our choristers come from across Chester and the surrounding area and meet at the Cathedral several times each week to learn music, make friends and maintain our living tradition of choral worship that stretches back nearly 1,000 years. A wonderful delivery has made its way to West Cheshire Food Bank following our Harvest Festival. 🌾

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone across the College community who donated so generously. Every tin, packet and essential item will help support local families facing difficult times.

It’s fantastic to see the generosity of our AGC community put to such good use, making a real difference where it is needed most. ❤️
