Last week, we welcomed some very special visitors to Willow Lodge as our Reception children celebrated Grandparents' Day. Always a highlight in the infant school calendar, Grandparents' Day is a wonderful opportunity for our youngest pupils to show off their new classroom and playground - and everything they have learned in just four weeks of school.

The afternoon culminated with a concert performed by the children but the grandparents didn't miss the chance to join in with the words and actions of the final song, "I'm a Little Teapot".

Thanks for former pupil Stanley Moir (OKS 2018) who returned to King's last week to host one of our popular Careers Breakfasts for Senior School pupils.

Stanley is now a Mechanical Engineer and pupils were interested to hear about his career path from choosing his A levels at King's to graduating from Newcastle University and his current work for an offshore renewable energy company.

It is so valuable for pupils to hear from young people who once sat where they are sitting today, and we are always grateful to members of our alumni community who give their time and expertise to our current pupils.

A proud moment for Sixth Former Jacob Watson, whose Manchester United and England shirts now take pride of place on the wall of our Sports Centre.

In King’s tradition, Jacob joins other elite pupil athletes whose framed shirts both celebrate their impressive achievements and inspire our younger pupils. Jacob also has the honour of being the very first Premier League shirt to adorn our walls.

Jacob is pictured here with Director of Football, Andy Davies, and first XI Coach, Danny Ortiz, who presented Jacob with his framed shirts.

Last week, we celebrated our 2026 Entry Scholars with a special assembly and the traditional photograph with the Head.

Their exceptional performance in the January entrance exam earned the 18 pupils the title of Entry Scholar, and Mr Rogers congratulated them on this exceptional achievement.

Academic excellence has a long and proud tradition at The King’s School, and we are delighted to recognise the achievements of our scholars each year. Congratulations to our 2026 Entry Scholars!

We are looking forward to welcoming former pupil Stanley Moir (OKS 2018) for our next careers breakfast on Friday, 2 October at 8.15am.

Stan is a Mechanical Engineer who currently works for offshore renewable energy company, Osbit. With experience working as a Design Engineer for Triumph Motorcycles and in the Bentley motorsports team, he has enjoyed an interesting variety of roles since graduating with a Masters in Mechanical Engineering from Newcastle University and his career insights will be interesting to many pupils, including those considering an engineering pathway.

Senior School pupils can sign up now on Involve.

It was wonderful to see King’s so busy and full of energy at our annual Senior School Open Day on Saturday.

From making phone holders in DT to planting a kitchen garden in Biology, visitors enjoyed a range of exciting, hands-on activities throughout the morning.

Children and parents alike also had the opportunity to explore life at King’s beyond the classroom; watching our talented pupils perform in the theatre, taking on our goalie on the football field and even being sorted into one of our eight King’s Houses.

This year’s Open Day provided one of the first opportunities for our new Head, Mr Rogers, to meet prospective parents. He spoke about the breadth and ambition of a King’s education, and how these sit alongside the warmth and individual attention that ensure every pupil is known, supported and encouraged to thrive – qualities that our visitors experienced for themselves on Saturday.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make the morning such a memorable one.
