As we hit the single digits until The Den will close there doors and we come to the end of our adventure here i wanted to say thank you for the families who have come into my home, trusted us with their children whilst we did our best to show them the world in all its awe and wonder 🌍

You will all hold a special place in our hearts. There have been many 'wow' moments along the way and we are blessed and grateful for the time that we have had 🙏

We send so much love and hugs and wish you all the greatest paths for the future ❤

A little boy recently started at The Den, I put on some of our music, he told me that at nursery they have a tidy up song, I responded saying that was good and that at The Den we play music that are our favourites. He said 'you don't play nursery music' and smiled.

When a parent came to pick up
yesterday a parent asked what we were listening to. We told them Flight of the Bumblebee, the children had asked for the fast song....... referring to the bumble bee. The parent responded how cultured.

It dawned on me that although yes we teach nursery rhymes, we also show the children different styles of music. Music plays such an important part in someone's life, it plays such a part in a person's wellbeing. A song can make you feel an emotion, tell a story, help you to express yourself.

We hear music every single day and whilst I advocate nursery rhymes I 100% choose music 🎶

I created a story showing our favourite songs at The Den, some requested by the children and others that I have played which has made it onto the list 🎼

Room on the Broom

Lovely little invitation of Room on the Broom set up. Listening to the children talk about what they could see, re-tell the story, one group told the story using the book and keeping in time with the story, one group coming up with their own story!

Setting up an invitation using some recycled materials, forever teaching about our effects on the planet and how we can help 🌍

I walked away and the children pottered away all using the resources to make their own pieces of art, they decided to build different transport. They gathered the other resources that they needed independently for the task they had set themselves, setting goals and achieving them no matter how big or small is a wonderful accomplishment 👏

Using the wooden shapes to make our pictures, arranging and forming patterns. The children worked hard, matching the shapes and colours, discussing the different characteristics of the shapes, counting the corners and size.

Patterns are in number names, rhymes and rhythms and are all part of learning mathematics.

Montessori Letters.

Tracing the letters in our name to feel how the letter moves. We also used salt in a tray to trace the letter and strengthen our finger muscles.

Bill and Ted our stick insect 🐛

The children helped look after our stick insects for a year which led to a year of inquiring minds 🧠 eager to learn and ask many questions 💬

Over this time the children took care of our friends, feeding and watering them, building a new home when they grew older, cleaning their home, talking and holding them and we even found there skin when they shed...... wow!!!

Teaching our children about the world around us and the different parts which work together to help us all grow and manage our earth is to teach respect, an understanding and appreciation for all within our 🌏
