Looking for a small role that fits around your day and makes a real difference?

Do you have the listening skills of a therapist, the patience of a saint, and the ability to keep up with playground politics, friendship dramas, and detailed explanations of why today's school lunch was apparently a complete disaster? 😆

We’re looking for a School Run Es**rt to join our friendly team in September to help primary school children get safely from schools in Birtley to our club.

You should be fully committed to keeping children safe and supported — someone who consistently gives 10/10, not 6–7 😜😜😜

We care deeply about our children. They are at the heart of everything we do, and we want them to finish their school day feeling safe, happy and cared for.

It’s really important to us that every child is greeted by a familiar, regular, smiley face at the end of their school day — someone they know, trust and feel comfortable with. That first hello after school really matters.

⏰ Hours
Monday to Friday
3:00pm – 4:00pm
Term time only

✨ Extra hours may be available if required, including during school holidays.

What you’ll be doing:

💛 Being that familiar, friendly face at the end of the school day
💛 Helping children feel safe, calm and happy after school
💛 Supporting their emotional wellbeing when they’ve had a big or busy day
💛 Walking children safely from school to our clubs
💛 Following our safety procedures at all times
💛 Listening to stories about playground dramas, friendship fallouts, lost jumpers, football arguments and why something “wasn’t fair”

Experience of working with children is helpful, but not essential. We care more about the kind of person you are. If you are kind, responsible, reliable and genuinely enjoy being around children, we’d love to hear from you.

If you’re the kind of person who naturally notices a child’s curiosity before anyone else does — the one who kneels down to their level, listens properly and finds joy in small discoveries - this might feel like home.

We’re looking for an Apprentice to join our nursery team: someone warm, grounded, and genuinely interested in how young children grow, think, and explore the world. You don’t need to arrive fully trained - we’ll teach you. What matters most is your attitude, your patience, and your instinct to nurture.

This is a paid apprenticeship where you’ll be part of a high-quality early years setting that values care, consistency, and a bit of playful imagination. You’ll learn on the job, supported by experienced practitioners who take pride in doing things properly - not rushed, not tick-box, but thoughtful, child-centred care.

We welcome people who:

Have a real interest in early childhood development and childcare

Communicate clearly and kindly in English, both speaking and writing

Enjoy working as part of a close-knit team and can step up when needed

Bring patience, empathy and a calm, nurturing presence

Have some experience with children (helpful, but not essential)

Are open to learning, training, and growing in the role

This apprenticeship is more than a starting point - it’s a foundation. You’ll gain hands-on experience alongside structured training, building confidence and skills that can lead into a long-term career in early years education.

We take safeguarding seriously - not as a formality, but as a core promise. Every child’s safety and wellbeing comes first, always. All applicants will need to share this commitment.

The role includes:

Enhanced DBS check

Verification of identity and right to work in the UK

Satisfactory references (including from your most recent employer or education provider)

Safeguarding training as part of induction

Recruitment in line with safer recruitment standards and current legislation

Contract: 18 months, with the possibility of a permanent role on successful completion
Hours: 30 per week
Pay: Earn while you train (National Minimum Wage, with increases once qualified)
