The truth is, learning rarely looks perfect.

Sometimes it’s messy.
Sometimes it takes longer.
Sometimes progress feels invisible.

And that’s okay.

Because every learner is different.
Every journey is different.

That’s why adaptive teaching matters.

It’s about meeting learners where they are, not where we expect them to be.

We’ve put together 7 practical adaptive teaching strategies that every tutor can use to better support learners with additional needs.

Because sometimes, changing the way we teach changes everything.

This week, we had the pleasure of hosting a student for work experience.

Rather than observing from the side lines, they spent time learning about the different functions that keep an education organisation running, from marketing and communications to quality assurance and contract management.

What stood out wasn't what they learned from us. It was the reminder that young people often thrive when they're trusted with responsibility, included in conversations, and given exposure to opportunities they may never have known existed.

At EM Tuition, we're committed to supporting our communities, not only through the learners we work with, but also by creating meaningful opportunities for young people to explore the world of work.

Because every career starts somewhere, and sometimes all it takes is someone willing to open the door.

🌱 Growing New Opportunities at EM Academy Ipswich 🌱

We're excited to share that EM Tuition has been awarded a £5,000 grant through the Harwich Haven Authority Grantmaking Programme, administered by Suffolk Community Foundation

This funding will help bring our Little Green Fingers SEND Sensory Gardening Project to life, creating a dedicated outdoor space where learners can explore, learn, and connect with nature through sensory and hands-on experiences.

More than just a garden, this project will create new opportunities for children with SEND to build confidence, develop communication skills, support their wellbeing, and experience learning in a way that works for them.

At EM Academy, we're committed to creating environments where every learner can discover their strengths and thrive. Little Green Fingers is another step towards making that vision a reality.

A huge thank you to Suffolk Community Foundation and the Harwich Haven Authority Grantmaking Programme for supporting this initiative. We'd also like to recognise Garry, Area Manager at EM Academy Ipswich, whose dedication and hard work helped make this project possible.

We're looking forward to sharing updates as Little Green Fingers begins to take shape. 🌿

Just one hour a week can change a young person’s future.

At EM Tuition, we believe every child deserves access to quality education, regardless of their financial circumstances.

We’re looking for Volunteer Maths and English Tutors to support KS3 and KS4 students who may not otherwise have access to tuition. Whether you’re a teacher, teaching assistant, university student, graduate, or working professional with strong subject knowledge, your time and expertise could make a lasting difference.

By volunteering with us, you’ll help students build confidence, improve academically, and unlock opportunities for the future.

We’re looking for people who are:
✔️ Passionate about helping young people succeed
✔️ Available for at least 1 hour per week
✔️ Reliable, patient, and encouraging
✔️ Able to support KS3 and/or KS4 Maths or English students

Experience supporting students with SEND is highly valued, but not essential.

Together, we can help remove barriers to education and ensure every student has the opportunity to reach their full potential.

📩 Interested in volunteering? We’d love to hear from you.

Sometimes the most important thing we can offer a young person isn’t an answer. It’s a relationship built on trust, consistency, and understanding.

When people hear the word safeguarding, they often think of policies and procedures.

But safeguarding is much more than that.

It is creating environments where children feel safe, supported and able to learn.

It is noticing when something does not seem right.

It is promoting wellbeing, inclusion and positive relationships.

It is ensuring that every learner has the support they need to thrive.

At EM Tuition, safeguarding is not a standalone responsibility. It sits at the heart of everything we do and informs every interaction, decision and learning experience.

Because every child deserves to feel safe, valued and heard.

🏰 History, nature, railways and ice cream, not a bad day's learning!

Our tutors Ross and Rebecca took our learner on a trip to Clare Country Park in Suffolk and it turned into a brilliant day of exploration and discovery.

Learning doesn't always happen at a desk. Sometimes it happens on a castle mound, on an old railway track, or while watching cygnets swim past.

A huge well done to Ross, Rebecca and our brilliant learner for a wonderful day out.

This is what learning looks like at EM Tuition. 💙

What if learning felt like an adventure?

Our tutors design sessions around what truly engages each learner. Charlotte guided our learner to design islands, build boats from recycled materials, wire up an electric motor and then test everything at Kensington Gardens.

Just a dedicated tutor, a curious learner, and a whole lot of creativity and problem-solving.

Not every learner engages immediately.
Not every learner communicates directly.
And not every form of progress looks loud.

Sometimes progress looks like:

-returning to something familiar
-staying engaged
-expressing emotions safely
-participating at a comfortable pace

Every learner develops differently. And every step forward matters.
