As part of our ๐ฃ๐ฒ๐ผ๐ฝ๐น๐ฒ ๐ช๐ต๐ผ ๐๐ฒ๐น๐ฝ ๐จ๐ topic, we were delighted to welcome ๐ฃ๐๐ฆ๐ข ๐๐บ๐บ๐ฎ from Suffolk Police to spend the morning with our learners. The visit was about much more than learning about policing.
It was also an opportunity to challenge fears and misconceptions that some children may have about the people who are there to help them.
When Emma first arrived, a few learners were understandably cautious and unsure. However, her warm, friendly and approachable manner quickly put everyone at ease. Before long, the room was buzzing with curiosity as learners confidently asked questions about her uniform, body camera, radio and the important role she plays in supporting the local community.
Emma brought along a range of engaging activities, giving learners the chance to create their own fingerprints and take home a fingerprint keyring as a keepsake. There were colouring activities, stickers and even the opportunity to dress up in police uniforms, helping children explore the role through play and imagination.
To make the experience even more immersive, Garryย and the academy team transformed simple materials into a police van and a jail cell. Together, the learners acted out a story involving a toy shop theft, following the journey from reporting the incident to investigating what had happened, finding the โsuspectโ and safely taking them to jail. Through role play, children developed communication skills, teamwork and problem solving, all while having lots of fun.
What was most special was seeing the transformation throughout the morning. The nervousness that some learners felt at the beginning was replaced with confidence, laughter and genuine excitement. ๐ข๐ป๐ฒ ๐น๐ฒ๐ฎ๐ฟ๐ป๐ฒ๐ฟ ๐๐บ๐ถ๐น๐ฒ๐ฑ ๐ฎ๐ป๐ฑ ๐๐ฎ๐ถ๐ฑ, โ๐ง๐ต๐ถ๐ ๐๐ฎ๐ ๐๐ต๐ฒ ๐ฏ๐ฒ๐๐ ๐ฑ๐ฎ๐ ๐ฒ๐๐ฒ๐ฟ!โ As the session came to an end, Emma was sent off with big hugs, proving just how much of an impact her visit had made.
