Newtown School

Newtown School The official Newtown School Website Newtown is a vibrant, innovative school set in the heart of the community it serves.

The ethos of this two form entry school is welcoming, nurturing and enthusiastic. Our children are confident in their ability to learn, resilient and considerate of others. At Newtown we constantly strive to provide the best learning opportunities for all the children in our care. We set high expectations and encourage the children to set themselves challenging goals. As well as covering the Earl

y Years Foundation Stage and National Curriculum, our curriculum offers a wider, global perspective and a range of exciting learning opportunities. We aim for children to become enthusiastic lifelong learners with a real thirst to acquire new skills. Newtown is a forward thinking and constantly evolving school where the staff are also learners. As a staff we study and share the latest educational research and discuss what could improve learning for the children before looking at ways to implement it. For example over the last few years we have introduced our own bespoke phonics system, P4C a system of teaching philosophy for children and introduced the children to the importance and power of growth mindsets and employing a positive behaviour for learning approach which will support them in developing their learning skills in a positive working environment. Currently we are embedding work we have done on Zones of Regulation, supporting the children to recognise their own emotions and how they can help themselves to get in to the best zone for learning. At Newtown we are proud of our holistic approach to learning and are keen for our pupils to reach their full potential academically and socially. We are proud of the wide range of support for children in our care. We run Nurture Groups every afternoon, supporting children with emotional or behavioural needs.

We had a fantastic Art Week in school last week - thank you to EVERYONE who made this possible - our amazing parents and carers who came in to lead sessions and to help with t shirt decorating plus the following volunteers:
Chesham Museum, Amersham Museum, Step to it Academy, Theatre Shed, Niki Bell, Ellie Vandenbrekel, Anne Marie Perks, Adrian and Julie Vale, Scarlet Johnson, and then Coach Jamie for leading the 'painting with balls' during PE sessions.
We are so lucky to be part of such a supportive community - we couldn't have done it without you all and the children had such an amazing week and made so many memories.

We have had a fantastic Eid celebration day in school today. We are so grateful to the parents who came in to help with the activities - we are so lucky to have such supportive parents, thank you so much! The children made flatbreads this morning and had henna patterns this afternoon. We had samosas and pakoras at snack time, learnt how to write Eid Mubarak in Urdu, and did Eid related arts and crafts too. Thank you to Ibrahim from Chesham Mosque for coming in to lead our assembly this morning.

During the holidays our children took part in Ready, Steady, Read / Listen - a sponsored read / listen to raise money to buy new books for our library. We are so excited to say that we have so far raised £1,706.10!!! This has far exceeded our hopes and we are so grateful to everyone who has supported us and especially to our children / families who have taken part. If your child took part and you haven't yet paid your sponsorship money please do so by Monday morning via your ParentPay log in - it would be totally out of this world if we could get to £1,800!!
