Children in the Infant school had a lovely afternoon partaking in our Chick-a-thon event this week. The crazy races were sponsored by families to raise money for our chick project this month. Flapping like a chicken and wearing novelty items was all part of the fun. Thank you to our families for their generous donations.

Squires in Chertsey came into Sunbeams on Friday 28th April with enough baskets, compost and plants for each child in the nursery to plant up three pot plants each, as part of their sustainability project. They helped the children plant their baskets and every child was able to take home a lovely basket of flowering plants. The children have now been tasked with looking after their plants, observing them grow and watching which insects come to visit them. We are hoping they will keep us updated by sending in photos of the plants progress during the summer. Sunbeams would like to say a big thank you to the Chertsey Squires!

On Thursday 20th April we had a very successful whole school trip to Windsor Castle; this was a fantastic trip, rearranged from September, and was thoroughly enjoyed by the staff and children.
We would like to say a huge thank you to all parents/carers who offered their help on the day and to the children, who were outstanding ambassadors for the school during the trip; their behaviour was exemplary!

Are you looking for a Nursery place for your child in September 2023? We have now commenced the admission process for our Sunbeams Nursery for September 2023 and have spaces!

On 2nd March 2023, Stepgates Dance Crew competed in a Dance Festival. This was held in the theatre at Notre Dame School, which was an incredible experience for us. All the schools were amazing and did a brilliant job. As it was World Book Day, our theme was the Lost Boys of Neverland. It was really tough but we pushed through and gave our best performance yet! We were delighted when the results were announced and we got 2nd place! Wohoo!

Our FOSS Mother's Day stall will take place on Monday 13th and Wednesday 15th May! ❤️

Our Reception class had a fantastic time at Chertsey Museum on Monday 27th February. The trip helped to promote our topic of 'The Olden days'. The children started with an interactive session, discussing and handling objects from the past. The children sat and listened brilliantly, and gave lots of thoughtful answers to the education lead. We then split into groups to explore the museum, which the children loved: pressing buttons, touching objects, learning about history and dressing up. It was a very educational and worthwhile experience. Well done Ladybirds for your brilliant behaviour, and for representing Stepgates so well. The Museum is an excellent resource, and has free admission. They would love you to visit.

Our book sale will continue after school in the shared area! 50p per book. Yay! Happy everyone!

Art and Craft club, this week, enjoyed creating their own masterpieces with paints. They mastered different techniques with brushes and paint to compose their own master creations.

Some of our Infant children had great fun making pancakes to celebrate the start of Lent in the Christian calendar. The children measured and made the batter, watched the pancakes being cooked and flipped, then covered them with delicious toppings before eating them! The experience was enjoyed by all... Happy Pancake Day everyone!

This year on World Book Day (Thursday 2nd March), we will be hosting a book sale to share some of the wonderful tales we have enjoyed and we'd love you to support us by bringing along any books you are ready to give to others, as well as choosing some new stories to read together.

Thank you, as always for your enthusiasm for reading at Stepgates, we are really looking forward to this wonderful day of fun and reading together!

Our Year 1 children visited Milestones Museum this week and had a wonderful time!

Our Year 2 class have been busy baking delicious bread remembering the Great Fire of London that started in a bakery! Children loved this activity and they got to take their own bread home!

Our Reception class have been busy creating their own bird food mixture with bird seed, porridge and fat. The bird food will be hung in the wildlife areas around the school.

On Tuesday 17th January, Stepgates were treated to a surprise production of 'Scrooge' The Musical! This was a very kind gift from M&M Theatrical Productions which we all thoroughly enjoyed. There were four actors who used very clever scenery, songs, dance and a superb script to bring the book written by Charles Dickens to life!

We are very grateful to the volunteers from Samsung who very kindly gave up their time to come into to school to help us transform our playground and wasteland from dull and dreary to colourful and amazing areas for our children to enjoy for years to come.
Thanks must also go to Neighbourly and our local Co-op for their help with this project.

The Black Cherry Fair - A wonderful community occasion!

Big Splash week has been a big success!
We have raised lots of money towards the roof over our pool and most importantly the children have had lots of fun taking part in all the games and activities during the last week.
Our Rivers of Coin were amazing - Grasshoppers achieved the longest river at 77m!! Amazing! Closely followed by Ladybirds at 65m and Hawks at 59m. We are still counting up the pennies there are so many!
The 'Sponsored Swim' money is still coming in - once we have counted it all we will announce the total raised.
Well done everyone and a BIG thank you!

Stepgates children were very excited to create their own individual masterpieces for the Stepgates School Art Exhibition entitled 'Sunset Silhouettes'. Using a range of art skills, each class followed a theme of their choice to create their art works. The exhibition coincided with our Platinum Jubilee family picnic, and pupils were enthusiastic to show their families around the exhibition. Mrs White, who organised the exhibition, was thrilled to see the pupils and families reactions when seeing their art on display. Families were able to purchase individual art, raising funds for art resources. The exhibition was a great success. Thank you to all those who supported the event.

The final total for the FB Auction is £317.
We are well on the way to the target for our own fundraising for our new pool.

A big thank you to Shelby Hollick for running another very successful Pool Fund Auction on Facebook. The Auction has raised in excess of £300! The final total is still to be announced but watch this space. Well done Shelby and thanks to all those who supported the event.
