On Wednesday, we were delighted to celebrate some of our Duke of Edinburgh students and their superb achievements in completing Bronze and Silver awards. With over 280+ students taking part, we had to split the evening into two different sessions!

Due to the hard work of the students, D of E lead Mr Graham and his committed team, Salesian officially now has the most successful D of E programme in England! All involved deserve a huge congratulations but this could not have been achieved without our impressive students.

Great students deserve a great guest speaker and we had exactly that with the wonderfully remarkable Sally Orange. Sally is an endurance runner, adventure athlete and mental health campaigner who completes nigh on impossible tasks, often whilst dressed as a fruit. A big thank you to Sally, we were lucky to have you. You can read more about her adventures here:

Thank you to all who attended, we hope you enjoyed the evening just as much as we did. To parents waiting for photos of their child, they will be individually sent to you before half term.

For those that haven’t had a chance to visit, our last open morning is just around the corner, and we eagerly await to show you what Salesian School life is truly like.

We couldn't be prouder of our GCSE students! 44% of all grades were 9-7 (A*/A), double that of the national average (22%) and 90% were 9-4 (A*-C) in comparison to the national figure of 67.3%. 88% of students passed English and Maths at grade 4 or above and 71% passed both at grade 5 or above.

Mr Bridgland and his Year 11 team deserve a special mention for all of their hard work and commitment over the last several years. Mr Bridgland, teachers and parents alike have worked tirelessly to ensure the best possible outcomes for all of our Year 11's so we'd like to thank you all on behalf of Salesian. Don Bosco himself would be delighted.

Another record breaking year for Salesian. We bucked the national trend by improving our A-Level and Vocational results from last year. 42% of all grades were A*~A, 73% of grades were A*~B and a staggering 20% of students gained straight A*/A grades. We are all immensely proud of you.

A huge congratulations to all of our wonderful Y13's, parents and teachers who worked so hard over the last 2 years to achieve this amazing feat. A special thanks to Mrs. Young who's done a remarkable job over the years supporting and championing them all.

As part of the NHS’s 75th birthday celebrations last week, we had the incredible opportunity to donate £1,160 to Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Paediatric Team. Funded by an extra m***i day, we can’t thank the students, parents and wider Salesian community enough for your overwhelming generosity!

Our head students were invited to the hospital to learn more about what the Paediatric Team do and to see where the funds will be put to great use. Oak Ward Deputy Sister, Vicky Hall, said: “We are incredibly grateful to the Salesian School students for this generous donation, and are so impressed by their fundraising efforts. This money will make a huge difference to the children and young people we look after and help to improve their experience in hospital.” Ashford And St. Peter's Hospitals Nhs Foundation Trust

Some more excitement from today's official sports hall opening! Please see previous post for more details.

Photos from Salesian School Chertsey's post 22/06/2023

Today, the newly built Salesian School Sports Hall was officially opened by multi Olympic, World and European Champion Sir Mo Farah, CBE with over 200 students, parents and staff in attendance. The opening of the Sports Hall at Salesian was the culmination of 10 years hard work fundraising, planning and building.

Sir Mo Farah’s visit to Salesian included him taking part in a Q&A, responding to questions posed by the students. He talked about his faith, his pre-race superstitions, discrimination and his experiences in ‘I’m a Celebrity’!

The Sports Hall has been officially named the Eric Doherty and Peter O’Brien Sports Hall. Eric served as Deputy Headteacher at Salesian for 20 years, he was Acting Headteacher for a year and served in the Physical Education Department, a subject area he still supports today, long after his retirement. Peter was a parent, then Governor, before becoming School Business Manager and Chair of Xavier Catholic Education Trust. He drove the project financially, sharing the vision of the then Headteacher James Kibble.

Headteacher, Paul Gower, said that ‘it is a wonderful moment for the whole school community. Two years ago, the school possessed no useable playing fields and a single badminton court size gymnasium. As a result of fundraising and careful planning we now find ourselves with new school fields across the road and this wonderful Sports Hall, both of which will deliver sporting opportunities to the students at Salesian school for years to come’.

Sleep plays a big part in the condition of our mental health, especially as we grow and develop into adulthood.

Next week, The Wellbeing Hub will be posting a blog all about sleep and its effect on hormones that regulate a child’s growth and development (written by Dr Catherine Whitlock, science writer and author). Whilst predominantly aimed at parents, there will undoubtedly be some valuable information for students to better understand their sleep too.

Yesterday our Easter production of 'Game Over', made up of a hugely talented troop of Year 10 GCSE drama students, performed to over 1000 students both at Salesian school and St Peters school in Guildford. It was a hard-hitting piece of theatre about the true story of online grooming and subsequent murder of a teenage boy. The talent and commitment by all those in the cast and tech team was truly spectacular. Well done all!

Wellbeing Wednesday
Today it was our year 12s turn to take a break from school work by joining in with a variety of different activities for the afternoon. Similarly to what the year 13s did in March, our students took part in yoga, self-defence training, meditation, mindful colouring, rounders and football. This time our new indoor cricket practice equipment and gym were also put to good use! A big thank you to any staff who helped support these valuable sessions.

We are so proud of our young people and how they represented Salesian School.
