Message received from our Outreach and Widening Participation Team....
Dear all,
You may or may not be aware that as part of the work of the Outreach and Widening Participation Team we are funding an enhanced subject-specific outreach offer through recent graduates working for us as Graduate Advocates.
We have just opened recruitment for our second set and the subject areas we are hoping to recruit to are:
Business, Computing and Media. These areas have been chosen to fit with the strategic focus of the university, and are a fantastic resource to speak to a wide range of students interested in your subject areas.
These GAs would work alongside our three current GAs, the outreach and WP team, staff within faculties and be line managed by myself.
GA Role:
Once in post, the GAs will work to develop a suite of workshops and presentations around taking these subjects at university level and the opportunities around them. The majority will be designed for the GA to deliver at a school/college in order to maximize the opportunities to engage with students.
The GAs will build contacts at our key partners, working with people we already have a relationship with, as well as developing links with possible strong recruiters.
We are looking for students that can provide a really good face for your subject areas to deliver sessions,
Eligibility:
We can accept applications from students who will be finishing their UG degree this year, or finished last year and would appreciate any support you can provide in highlighting this opportunity to students/graduates.
We expect the GAs to start during August, and they will be on a 23 month fixed term contract.
Support from faculties:
We have learnt a lot from the first six months of having these roles, and I would like to meet you to discuss how the role can work best within your faculty. I will be away from next week until 16th April, but sometime after then would be good.
On a basic level they would require space to work from the faculty one or two days per week and an academic mentor to support them to ensure they are working well for all of us.
These roles have been created to enhance engagement with subjects, rather than replace anything that is already occurring with academics. In addition, we hope that by visiting these many schools and colleges we will be able to bring more students onto campus to see UoG for themselves giving academic staff more opportunities to deliver face-to-face, on-campus, subject specific sessions.
The advert for the role can be found here:
