Meet Extraordinary Man — my thoroughbred team chaser, fresh off his holidays and easing back into work ahead of the team chase season. Today’s job: a gentle hack and a good gawp at the village (the Peter Kay soundtrack feels about right 😅).

There’s a lot more to life here than competition days. Hill work, strengthening, hacking, schooling and plenty of downtime — the horses get a proper variety of jobs, and it keeps them happy, sound and switched on. Out early this morning… then straight back in for a siesta. 😴

Coaching head on for a second 👇 It’s set to hit 35°C this week. Please — plenty of shade, plenty of fresh water, and keep them out of the midday sun where you can. Keep a check on your horses, your animals and yourselves. Sun cream, sun cream, sun cream! 🧴 Look after each other out there. 💛

Oxstalls did not disappoint! 🐴

On Saturday, Archie Angel and Tellairsue headed to the La British Eventing at Oxstalls, and both boys were a real credit.

Archie Angel jumped another double clear — that’s two double clears from two outings. The dressage is still a work in progress but getting better every time, and at only his second competition I couldn’t be more thrilled. The plan is to have him settled and ready for Emily once her foot has healed.

Sue produced a respectable dressage, absolutely flew around the cross-country and picked up just one unlucky pole in the showjumping. For a horse who only came out of racing this time last year and is still very green, he was foot-perfect where it counted. I just love this horse…. So kind, so honest, a pleasure to do anything with!!!

A genuinely lovely day — great friends, great people, and everyone home happy and smiling. That’s what it’s all about. 🙌

Weekend round-up post……..

Two early starts, two very different days, one very happy team. 🐴

Saturday at West Wilts — one of my favourite venues — Archie Angel and Sue both made their British Eventing debuts. Archie was foot-perfect for a double clear and 9th on debut. Sue posted a dressage PB, but I withdrew him when he wasn’t quite himself — a dodgy nail, sorted on the spot, and he’s fine to run next weekend. The horse comes first, always! And they do tell us when things aren’t quite perfect…. Always listen!!!

Sunday at the Three Counties Show, I rode Vinny for the Cupper family to win the 95cm Amateurs and finish 3rd in the Disco. Both Vinny and Archie are Emily’s horses — once too tricky for her to ride, now educated and settled enough that she’s out competing them herself (broken foot permitting! 🙈). With Jim a member there for 40+ years, putting in a win with the whole family watching meant the world.

That’s the job I love: bringing on the quirky and the tricky, establishing these horses to then coach the riders back on to!!! If you’d like to take your horse to the next level, get in touch. 🐎
