Mary Godwin Under Fives Playgroup

We have been celebrating the lunar new year and Valentine’s Day. We have done lots of small world play as well as practicing our counting and letter recognition.
We found coins for lucky money envelopes, made lanterns and paper dragons. We made valentines cards and potions as well as decorations for our tree.
We used food colouring to paint onto bread then toasted it for snack. 😋

We have started the new year with some winter activities, making penguins, and playing with “snow”. The children have shown an interest in the ice and what happens to it when you crack it and when it gets warm. We have enjoyed some messy play as well as some experiments and potions! The parachute was a great activity indoors on a cold winter day. 🐧🐻‍❄️❄️🧊

It was lovely going to school today to see the nativity. Playgroup children sat beautifully and were a credit to us. The reception and year 1 children put on a fabulous nativity play for us all. 🌟

Halloween celebrations for us this week and what ghoulish fun it’s been. 👻🎃💀🧙‍♀️🧛

We’ve been dressing up, creating monstrous things, carving pumpkins and getting very messy in all sorts of yucky goo! The search was on for the hidden pumpkins and we even had time for the Monster Mash.

The children always get stuck in to the learning trays and we’ve had quite a selection on offer over the past few weeks, ranging from stories to fine motor skills. We have had the opportunity to construct an obstacle course and the children have role played as builders and much, more.

Next week, our last of the term will be full of frights as we celebrate Halloween 🎃

The children have enjoyed The Gruffalo scene on offer and we went on to make Gruffalo claw cookies, create portraits and made playdoh Gruffalo’s. Lots of lovely role play at the shops and vets and we’ve acted out The 3 Little Pigs story and painted pig faces.

Conker season is upon us and we collected an assortment of materials to explore back in setting and extend our learning. The children were intrigued to watch a mouse go about his day too….don’t worry we didn’t take him back with us! We have also painted with🦖, tin foil, cling film and conkers.

Our first full week and we have been enjoying some favourites such as the farm, pirates, diggers and a tea tray. We have build with Stickle bricks, made volcanoes and used kinetic sand and rice play.

We are so lucky to have the park at our disposal and we have used the playground, trim trail and explored for conkers. The children have uncovered numbers from the mucky piglets and enjoyed song and music sessions.
