Be great at the basics - raft building, walking over hot coals or
breaking arrows has nothing to do with performance.
It may be entertaining but if it’s entertainment you’re after, go to the cinema.
Get great at the basics of doing your job, making sure your technical and tactical skills are superb and relevant.
Then get great at the other basics - your mentality, your energy levels, your support team and your environment.

Being on a team can be hard. Being on a proper team is really hard, which is why most people have never had that experience.
The real reason why it’s hard is because it's seldom discussed and definitely isn’t solved by doing ridiculous team building activities. What if you weren’t worried about your position on the team and just played where and when the team needed you to play?
What if you truly, madly and deeply, accepted your role (even if you’d like a slightly different one) and played the one you’ve got without resentment or reservation and gave it your all?

Typically when we ask people how important confidence is for their job, they report something like a 9/10 or a 10/10. When we ask them how frequently they work on making sure this thing that is so important is fully working for them, they tell us that they don’t, or they only work on building confidence when it’s dipped or disappeared altogether.
For us, the logic of this doesn’t add up: people know confidence is important to their success, but they don’t behave in a way that shows it’s important. Perhaps it’s a sign of weakness to work on your confidence? How working on building confidence when it will make you perform better could be seen as sign of weakness is beyond us!!

As high performance experts, passionate about what we do and true to who we are, it follows that we are not for everyone.
Everyone wants results (or at least we hope that's the case). Everyone certainly wants the high performance label, just not everyone wants to do the work that's required to get it and if that's the case then that's ok, walk on by.

Humans are not resources and no-one we can think of would like to be referred to as such. We believe the name is a problem. Us humans are not simply resources – we are the very lifeblood of any high performance organisation. We believe HR would be better named HP. Not because it’s saucy, but because it’s all about Human Performance.
How does your organisation use the human performance experts they have at their disposal to make sure that your lifeblood is flowing everywhere it needs to go, unobstructed. Is there anything you think needs to change?

Undoubtedly motivation is one of the core pillars of high performance. It's also a very personal thing, what motivates one member of your organisation may not be the same for everyone else.
As a leader, understanding it's your role to create an environment in which motivation can flourish is key. This is very different to leaders motivating their team.
