Shooting TikToks trackside at an F1 Grand Prix? All part of the day job for Owen ๐๐๏ธ
After graduating with a First in Sports Journalism in 2021, UoG alumnus Owen Maers is now a Social Media Executive at Atlassian Williams F1 Team.
His day-to-day can involve everything from shooting and editing iPhone content to writing captions, planning the content calendar and creating ideas for social. And when heโs trackside, that means capturing content from Grands Prix around the world.
Itโs been quite the journey to get there. Since graduating, heโs worked with Sky Bet, joined 433 and covered a World Cup Final, moved into motorsport with Pace Six Four, worked across Aston Martin Aramco Formula One Team, Silverstone and World Supercross Championship, and even watched Lewis Hamilton win the 2024 British Grand Prix while working trackside.
Since joining Williams in January 2025, heโs covered 15 races trackside, worked on car launches and F1 events โ and somehow already found himself in two helicopters along the way ๐
His time at UoG helped build the filming, writing and creative skills he still uses every day, with working for Cheltenham Town during his third year proving particularly valuable.
โSay yes to every opportunity that you feasibly can, as you never know who you may meet or what you may learn from it. Put the work in outside of your classes to expand your skills and portfolio โ the degree is a great way to get your foot in the door, but you have to be dedicated outside of Uni too.โ
Swipe through to see how his journey took him from UoG to the F1 paddock ๐
