👋 Meet Declan Moss, a Skyborne integrated trainee currently completing his Single-Engine training at our fair-weather base in Vero Beach, Florida.

Inspired by the skill and impact of pilots during his time on deployment, Declan made the decision to pursue a career in aviation. As a Royal Navy Warfare and Operations Specialist, he built strong foundations in communication, decision making, teamwork and situational awareness, all skills that now support his pilot training.

His journey has not been without challenges. Financial barriers stood in the way, but with determination, hard work and the support of his wife, Declan took the leap towards his goal.

👌Favourite thing about being a pilot?
“The views and getting to see so many different destinations that Ryanair fly to.”

🌇A moment you’ll never forget?
“Taking off from Manchester into the sunset, flying through the night and landing into the sunrise.”

🤗What does take-off feel like?
“Pure excitement. Sitting at the end of the runway and feeling the power of the engines when you press TO/GA.”

🛫Favourite airport?
“Cologne. It’s a beautiful city, a big airport with very little traffic'

💬Advice for future pilots?
“Start today. Don’t put it off, there are more opportunities than ever.”

This is a significant milestone in every pilot's journey and one that reflects months of hard work, resilience and determination. We're incredibly proud of every trainee who has reached this stage and taken another step towards a career in aviation. 👏

We caught up with Integrated ATPL trainee Tom to reflect on his experience and share some advice for those following in his footsteps:

💬 Hardest part

"I initially struggled to establish a routine and figure out which revision techniques worked for me. Once I got that locked down, I felt more focused and started enjoying it a lot more."

💬 Best part

"The social side has been a highlight. Our course has formed a really strong bond, and it is always good fun when we get to switch off, whether that is sports or a barbecue on the beach. Those moments really matter."

💬 Advice for current trainees

"Stick with it. There will be tough moments, but before you know it, you will be heading into your final exams."

💬 Looking ahead

"Flying, of course but I am also looking forward to exploring and making the most of the experience."

Ground School is often one of the most challenging and rewarding stages of training. It's where knowledge, discipline and confidence are built before taking those next steps in the cockpit.

“Moving from another ATO can feel daunting, but with support from the Skyborne team, the transition was made seamless, from CAA paperwork to visa applications.”

📌What were your first impressions when you arrived at Skyborne?

“The scale of the operation stood out immediately. Seeing the fleet of 60+ aircraft, the 24/7 maintenance team, dedicated fuelers and the operations desk that made sure we were always fit and safe to fly was incredible.”
