In English, our Year 7 students have been putting their creativity and analytical skills to the test by exploring what makes an effective advertisement. After studying the language, structure and persuasive techniques used by advertisers, students were challenged to create and film their own adverts.
Using a range of equipment, students worked collaboratively to plan, script, film and edit their productions, applying their learning in a practical and engaging way.
This project combined creativity with academic rigour, encouraging students to think critically about how language and media influence an audience, while developing valuable communication and teamwork skills.
We can't wait to see the finished results!

“Sometimes you have to be a little bit naughty”
Year 7 and 8 channeled their naughty sides today with a fantastic trip to Bristol to see ‘Matilda the Musical’. The A Level Drama students came along too, as a welcome contrast to last week’s exams.
Many of these students are part of ‘St Ed’s On Stage’ on Friday 26th June, either as producers, directors or performers. It was a brilliant way to take inspiration from professionals, and to see children performing to such a high standard.
Don’t forget to book to see these ‘little maggots’ on stage soon!

Huge congratulations to Ines (Year 9), who performed on the stage at the Cheltenham Science Festival on Sunday as part of The Next Generation of FameLab.
After winning the St Edward’s FameLab Academy 2026 competition and going on to represent the school in the Gloucestershire Schools Final, Ines was invited to join a select group of winners and runners-up from FameLab Academy competitions across Gloucestershire, Oxford and Swindon.
Ines delivered her fascinating three-minute talk, "Are We Secretly Controlled by Sound?", with confidence, clarity and enthusiasm, engaging the audience with her scientific curiosity and excellent presentation skills.
We are incredibly proud of all that Ines has achieved through FameLab this year. Opportunities like these showcase the confidence, communication skills and love of learning that we encourage at St Edward’s, and it was wonderful to see her representing the school on such a prestigious stage.

Congratulations to Dodge D, Year 9 who has had great success in Athletics this season. He is the Midlands ISA Shot Put Champion and has qualified for the ISA National Finals later this month. What an incredible achievement!
This is the same young man who has represented the school in Public Speaking, plays a number of sports, and played the lead role in Shrek the Musical in January. We are beginning to think there is nothing that Dodge can't do!
He is an excellent example of St Edward's spirit, and we are so proud of all his achievements. Well done Dodge!

Year 8 & 9 Residential – Day 2 & 3
After another action-packed day, students enjoyed a well-earned roast dinner before gathering around the campfire for toasted marshmallows, gooey s’mores and a wonderful final evening together.
A special mention goes to our Year 9 students, who helped forage for kindling to keep the campfire burning, while Year 8 organised an enthusiastic cricket match complete with plenty of cries of "4!" and "6!" across the campsite. There were also footballs, rugby balls, frisbees, games and plenty of laughter as students made the most of the evening sunshine.
It was lovely to see everyone so engaged, enjoying each other's company and embracing the simple pleasures of outdoor life. By bedtime, after such a busy few days, the campsite quickly fell silent!
This morning began with a cheerful chorus of "Happy Birthday" ringing across the tents before students headed off for their final activities. What a fantastic trip it has been, full of adventure, friendship and memories that will last long after the tents have been packed away.

Year 8 & 9 Residential - Day Two!
Wind, rain, sunshine and plenty of adventure - day two had it all!
Students took on the assault course (complete with a race into the lake!), tackled team-building challenges using only milk crates, and showed fantastic communication, cooperation and problem-solving skills throughout the day.
The windy conditions added an extra challenge to Jacob’s Ladder and the Linear Course, but students rose to the occasion with determination and encouragement for one another. There was also a canoeing scavenger hunt, Taskmaster-style challenges and plenty of Mega SUP fun - with several teachers finding themselves unexpectedly in the water!
Tired but smiling, our students continue to impress us with their enthusiasm, resilience and willingness to throw themselves into every opportunity. What a fantastic second day!

Year 8 & 9 Residential – Day One!
A little rain on arrival certainly didn't dampen spirits as our Year 8 and 9 students quickly pitched their tents and threw themselves into an action-packed first day of adventure!
From scaling Jacob’s Ladder and tackling the Linear Course to testing their aim in Tag Archery and Tomahawk Throwing, students embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and determination. Nightline put their communication and teamwork skills to the test, while canoeing and Mega SUP on the lake required plenty of resilience, balance and a willingness to get a little wet!
After a busy day of activities, students enjoyed games around the campsite before some evening entertainment.
We are incredibly proud of the positivity, teamwork and adventurous spirit shown by all our students so far. Here's to day two!
