This week at The Tuition Hub the focus was on mental subtraction.
We used a giant numberline from Twinkl to subtract 2 digit and 1 digit numbers across 10. Older students progressed to increasingly larger numbers.

Some lovely mental arithmetic work in a 1:1 session yesterday.

We tackled two objectives:

1. Add 2 digit number and one digit number
2. Add 2 digit number and a multiple of 10

Practising those number bonds to 10 and 100 two weeks ago really paid off for this student!

This week we will carry on learning Mental Arithmetic skills. Fellow tutors and tuition centres are welcome to comment below sharing their experience teaching arithmetic, do’es and don’ts in arithmetic. Please also share ideas if key arithmetic skills needed to be taught to KS2 pupils!

Another great week at The Tuition Hub!

Mental arithmetic skills are our main focus until the end of term. I’m excited for the progress these clever kids will make!

In English, more fun with grammar and punctuation: quizzes, games and challenges as well as tricky spellings and writing skills.

Wow! I could not be more proud this week! What a joy to tutor these children.

A lot of work has been done at The Tuition Hub this week: reading and expanding numbers, place value problems, number bonds, counting in powers of 10, addition with near multiples of 10, decimals, rounding, multiplication tables with a clear progress already, tricky and trickier SATs questions, word class quizzes and games, sentence type problems, sorting activities and most of all smiles all round and a big sense of achievement 🙂.

Well done to all the students across the two groups and individual sessions! I can’t wait for next week 🙂

What a lovely first session this afternoon! I’m already looking forward to the next one. There are a few remaining spaces so if more children, particularly in Year 4, want to join the Maths Hour on Tuesdays then please get in touch.

I will be helping the children to prepare for their Multiplication Times Tables Check in July. We will also focus on Mental Arithmetic and Counting strategies this term - very important for their Maths progress. Text, call or email to discuss your child and the help I could offer! The Tuition Hub offers small group Maths and English tuition to pupils in Upper Rissington.

September bookings are now open:

Year 3 and Year 4 Maths Hour - Tuesdays @3.30pm
Year 5 and Year 6 Maths and English with SATs - Wednesdays @3.30pm

Additional slots will be offered depending on demand.

Small group tuition can boost learning by additional 4 months over the course of a year. Tuition is a great way to help children boost confidence and close those lockdown gaps.

The sessions at The Tuition Hub are delivered, and the tasks set, as a group but feedback is shared with each individual student as they work and questions can be asked in private to allow less confident students to participate. More confident and able pupils are challenged accordingly.
