Both children enjoyed exploring books and sharing a quiet, peaceful reading time.

In Montessori, we have the “Silence Game” — rather than telling children to be quiet, we gently guide them to experience and create quietness together. 🤍

I cut some flowers from the garden, child carefully poured water into a vase and arranged the flowers. 💐

And of course, He wiped up the water afterwards! 🧽✨

I really love taking the children out and about. We might spend the morning exploring the park, climbing and moving at soft play, bouncing on the trampolines, or enjoying a playgroup together. I was actually on the trampoline with them — it was SO bouncy for me ! 😂

Being outdoors and in different environments allows children to develop their independence, confidence and social skills — while simply having fun and discover the world around them.

We slowed down and explored the textures of different plants with our hands — smooth leaves, rough bark, soft grass, prickly stems and everything in between.

Sometimes the best learning happens simply by touching, feeling and noticing the world around us. 🤲🌱

📚 This month’s books!

I love choosing books around the children’s current interests. One of our little ones is fascinated by sharks, so we’ve been enjoying lots of shark stories 🦈. We’re also loving Sleeping Bunnies, along with this beautiful bedtime book. 🌙🐰

And honestly, I love all of these books too! ❤️

I’ve noticed that both children are going through a strong sensitive period for movement — they are constantly wanting to climb, crawl, balance, explore and challenge their bodies.

So today, I took them to soft play, where they had plenty of opportunities to move freely and practise these developing skills.

The sensitive period for movement is particularly important in the early years. Through movement, children develop coordination, balance, body awareness and independence, while supporting the development of the brain.

When we observe the child carefully, we can provide exactly what they are ready for. 🌱

Little hands, big concentration! Compare to last week out in and out, this week she is working hard to put to the right peg.

it was tricky at first, but after a little demonstration, she gave it a go! 👏

I’ve recently started studying for the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award for SENCO in Early Years Settings, and I’m already finding it really interesting.

One thing that has really stood out to me is how well-developed the laws and procedures are in the UK when it comes to supporting children with SEND. There is a clear process for early identification, inclusion and working with families and professionals.

It reminded me of a colleague who once tried very hard to encourage the parents of two children to seek further assessment in Shenzhen China, but they said that doctors wouldn’t take teachers’ opinions seriously. Doctors observed 20minutes said it’s fine. Teachers worried too much.

Here, teachers’ observations can play an important role in identifying a child’s needs. And must talk to parents. Sadly, in China, many children still don’t receive the support they need and didn’t identify at the earliest age to get help. And I can see why Ofsted requested the 2 years report from the early years educators.

As I’m welcoming younger children now, I’ve made a little change to our mealtime setup. 😊

The old chairs were a bit too high and had no side support, so they were more suitable for 3-year-olds. The little sofa was comfy, but not the easiest to clean after meals! 😅

I’ve now got these adjustable chairs with side support. They’re much more suitable for our younger ones, and I hope they’ll feel comfortable and secure using them. ❤️
