In Little learners Holly, our early years teacher, started the week making magic potions, with coloured water and pipets to work on our fine motor skills and imagination " mine makes you into a queen" Rk said, while BP said " you will be a frog if you drink this"
The preschool children had a fantastic time participating in a table activity where they worked together to create playdough, with Jaz our Early years assistant. They gathered around the table, excitedly discussing which ingredients we would need. M.D suggested, "A bowl and a spoon," and B.C added, "Flour and salt!" O.A then chimed in with, "We need some water," while A.J enthusiastically mentioned, "And paint!" After everyone contributed their ideas, we compiled a list of ingredients and got started, with each child taking turns pouring them into a bowl. Once everything was in, E.C eagerly asked, "Can we mix it?" The children took turns stirring the mixture with great excitement. E.B.L noted, "It looks like fire," to which A.D pointed out, "It's red!" When the mixture turned out a bit sticky, M.D suggested, "We need more flour." Afterwards, the children happily made their own creations, rolling out their playdough and using various tools to shape it as they desired. They shared their projects with one another, showcasing their creativity and imagination. E.B.L crafted "a snake," L.R made "a wiggly worm," M.D sculpted "a shoe," and B.C fashioned "a bird." This activity truly encouraged the children to take turns, share ideas, and communicate effectively, highlighting their imaginative skills.
Out in the garden the children all engaged in our car washing activity where they all uses a variety of resources such as paint brushes, sponges and cloths to clean the paint off the cars.
This week, we kicked off Mini Medics with a fun activity where the children practised shouting for help. They all did an incredible job using their big, loud voices to say "HELP!" Next, we talked about people who help us. I asked the children who helps at nursery, and they joyfully named the staff members. H.W even said, "all the grown-ups!" We then explored who helps us at home, and the children quickly responded with "Mummy and Daddy." It was wonderful to see their understanding of the supportive people around them. M.D shared, "When I was on holiday, I hurt my knee, and Mummy put a plaster on it," which further highlighted their comprehension. In another Mini Medics session, we learned about our emergency services. The children confidently identified emergency vehicles like police cars, fire engines, and ambulances. We discussed why these vehicles come to help us, with J.N pointing to the police car and saying, "They get bad guys," R.A mentioning the fire engine for "if there's a fire," and B.C explaining the ambulance is for "when you're poorly." After our discussion, we gathered around the table to draw our very own emergency vehicles and continued our chat about their roles, including the important emergency number, with several children eagerly shouting "999." It has been a fantastic start to our preschool Mini Medics journey!
For international dot day, Holly set up a dot painting activity with lots of different resources to make dots and spots
This week we had a special delivery of a greenhouse for our garden as Little Learners have started their mission to improve our garden with Becky, our Senior Early years practitioner. The children helped build the greenhouse and we talked about what it was for. AG said 'we need massive flowers' and JN said 'let's make it big for lots of flowers'. As it's getting a bit cold for most seeds, we started simple with some cress seeds. The children are excited to watch them grow!
Holly, also set up a funny face activity. The children used the cut out eyes, nose and mouths to create a funny face, some of them use the pencils to draw a round face and hair. "Can you use the glue" OA asked her friends to work on sharing. "Mines my daddy" HW said to his friends
