Our approach to childcare is simple; to provide a loving, nurturing, safe environment filled with warmth and promise where individuals' talents are encouraged to flourish and grow. At Little Trees we consider that all children are individuals with their own characteristics and personalities. All children develop and mature at different rates, making their development and achievements unique to them. We believe in the development of the whole child and recognise that each child is unique. We believe that the early years’ experience should be rooted in “play” and the nursery curriculum provides the children with broad, balanced and relevant experiences built on what the children already “know” and “can do”. 📖 Stories, signs and lots of imagination! ✨

We recently welcomed our families into Little Trees Inchbrook nursery for a fun and interactive Story-Making & Makaton Evening, sharing some of the ways we support communication, language and storytelling within our nurseries – and how these can be continued at home. 🏠

Families discovered the benefits of story-making before getting creative themselves, using baskets of different objects and ideas to build their own stories together. We absolutely loved hearing what everyone came up with! 💭📚

Next came Makaton, with parents and children learning and practising signs before putting their new skills to the test with a very competitive game of Makaton Bingo! 👐🏆

Everyone went home with a special goody bag filled with resources to continue the fun, including story maps, a storybook and a wonderful Makaton video created by Caitlin.

One parent told us 💬 “I came away with lots of practical ideas and little tools that I can use with the boys at home. I especially loved how easy and enjoyable the Makaton was made to feel.”

A wonderful evening of learning, creating and connecting together. Thank you to all our families who joined us and to our fantastic team for making it such a special evening. 💛

At Dean Close Little Trees, we know how important it is for families to get to know the people who care for, support and inspire their children every day. That’s why our Friendly Faces Friday series shines a spotlight on the wonderful individuals across our nurseries – sharing a little more about who they are, what they love about Early Years and the personalities behind those familiar faces. 🌳

This week, we’re delighted to introduce Sarah who works with our Adventurers at Little Trees Tusthill!

For Sarah, one of the things she loves most about working with children is “the joy their smiles bring to my day, and the love they give.” 🥰

💦 Her favourite nursery activity is water play, particularly because of the many different themes and learning opportunities it can inspire from around the world.

🐻 Her favourite children’s book is 'We’re Going on a Bear Hunt', while one of the skills she believes every child should develop is self-dressing, helping to build independence and support milestones such as potty training.

🐴 Away from nursery, Sarah has been horse riding since she was young and says that if she wasn’t working in Early Years, she would love to work with horses. She’s definitely an animal lover – Sarah has two dogs, a cat and four snakes!🐶🐱🐍

🌟 Sarah is currently working towards her Level 3 in Childcare, alongside her Level 2 SENCO course, with aspirations to become the Nursery SENCO Lead in the future. 🌟

We are proud to celebrate the people, passions and personalities that make our Little Trees community so special. 💚

💌 Friendship across Dean Close Little Trees 💌

What started with National Pen Pal Day has blossomed into a lovely ongoing friendship between children across our English and Welsh nurseries. 😍

Our Investigator children have been busy connecting with their new pen pals, discovering the excitement of sending and receiving letters and learning more about life at another Little Trees Nurseries. 🤗

From exploring how a letter travels through the post to sharing stories, pictures and snippets of their local surroundings, the children are finding lots of wonderful ways to communicate and get to know their new friends. ✉️🩷

Our younger Explorers have also been thinking about what makes a good friend, creating colourful friendship potions with special “ingredients” representing kindness, caring and helping one another. 🌈💛

It’s a lovely way to spark curiosity, build connections and celebrate friendship, while bringing our Little Trees children together across England and Wales.

And this is only the beginning… we can’t wait to see these friendships continue to grow! 💚

🌟 Discovery Day with P.L.A.Y! Active at Little Trees Tutshill! 🌟

Our Adventures and investigator children had a brilliant time getting active during their P.L.A.Y Active Discovery Day!

Through fun Physical Literacy activities, they explored movement while developing balance, coordination, fine and gross motor skills, listening and attention, teamwork and social skills – all while having lots of fun! 🤸‍♀️⚽

Friendly Faces Friday | Meet Emma 👋

This week, we’re introducing Emma, Team Leader of Investigators at Little Trees Lansdown.

Becoming a Team Leader is Emma’s proudest professional achievement – a role that has helped her grow in confidence, develop her knowledge and become a strong leader for both her team and the children in her care.

For Emma, one of the things that makes Lansdown so special is the relationships built with our children and families. She loves being there to welcome everyone into nursery each morning and believes those everyday connections make a real difference.

📚 Inspiring a love of learning

Emma encourages learning through play, conversation, familiar routines and reading, recognising how these everyday experiences help children develop the skills and confidence they need as they begin their journey towards school.

Reading is particularly important to Emma. She believes developing a love of books from an early age can open up a world of communication, language, creativity and knowledge – and create a love of learning that lasts far beyond nursery 🩷

Away from nursery life, Emma certainly loves a challenge! She enjoys running marathons and hiking mountains, and if she could live anywhere in the world, she’d choose Australia for its wildlife, nature and outdoor adventures. 🏃‍♀️⛰️

And the animal that best represents her? A lion – brave, confident, strong and a great leader. 🦁
We think that’s a pretty fitting choice!

Autumn play, little hands, big learning at Little Trees Brownshill!

As the seasons begin to change, our children have been exploring autumn-inspired play dough stations, bringing together the colours, textures and treasures of the natural world. 🪵

Rolling, squashing, pinching and moulding may look like simple fun, but every movement helps to strengthen little hands and develop the fine motor skills needed for future writing. 😍

Adding leaves, conkers, pine cones and sticks sparks curiosity and imagination too – encouraging children to explore, create, count, compare, describe and share their ideas with others 🌟

🤩What a wonderfully inspiring morning at Little Trees Inchbrook 🤩

Following his recent session at our INSET Day, we were delighted to welcome Pie Corbett to see how story making is embedded throughout our nursery.🏰

Story making begins with our very youngest children. Through repetition, actions, pictures, familiar phrases and memorable experiences, children begin to absorb the rhythm, language and patterns of stories. As they grow, we encourage them to join in, retell, sequence and recreate familiar stories before using those foundations to spark their own ideas, characters and adventures. 💡

It’s about giving children a rich bank of stories and language to draw upon – building confidence to move from “I know this story” to “I can tell this story” and ultimately, “I can make a story of my own.” 💭

Across our rooms, teams bring stories to life through imaginative play, visual storytelling, props, story maps and child-led ideas, creating opportunities for stories to be explored, repeated, adapted and developed throughout the day.🤗

Makaton is embedded into our daily routines and storytelling too, using signs alongside spoken language, actions and visual prompts to support communication and enable children to engage, participate and express their ideas.

It was fantastic for our whole Inchbrook team to share their practice and receive such wonderful praise and encouragement from Pie, alongside new ideas to continue developing our story-making journey.

🌟Friendly Faces Friday | Meet Katie 🌟

This week, we’re introducing Katie, who is currently taking on a management role, covering maternity leave. ✋

Katie’s journey within Early Years is something she is incredibly proud of. Having started her career as a Nursery Practitioner, she progressed to Team Lead and is now embracing the additional responsibilities. For Katie, that progression reflects the hard work, dedication and commitment she has shown throughout her career, while continuing to build her confidence, leadership skills and Early Years knowledge.

💚 Helping little ones feel safe and settled

One of the things that really matters to Katie is creating a calm, warm and nurturing environment where every child feels secure. When a little one is shy or unsure, she believes in giving them time, patience and reassurance – getting down to their level, listening to them and taking a genuine interest in the things they enjoy.

There’s never pressure to join in straight away. Instead, Katie uses familiar routines, favourite activities, gentle encouragement and plenty of positive praise to help children gradually build their confidence and feel ready to explore.

📚 The best part of the nursery day?

For Katie, it has to be story time. She loves creating a calm and engaging moment where the children can come together, listen and use their imaginations – especially when they recognise a favourite story or character!

Story time is also a wonderful opportunity to develop language, communication and listening skills while nurturing an early love of books.

And away from nursery? Katie is definitely a dog person thanks to her boy Cooper 🐶, loves cosy autumn evenings 🍂 and her favourite Disney film is Encanto – particularly for its message about family, individuality and celebrating what makes each person special.😍

We’re proud to have passionate Early Years professionals like Katie growing and developing their careers within Dean Close Little Trees, while making such a positive difference to our children every day. 💚
