Days 3 & 4 Summer School Update

What an incredible couple of days we’ve had! Days 3 and 4 have been packed with high-energy sports, thoughtful creative projects, and plenty of fun indoor games. Here is a look at what our fantastic group has been up to:

Dodgeball: Always a crowd favorite - fast-paced and full of laughter

Football & Basketball: Great sportsmanship and skills on display.

Touch Rugby: Fantastic teamwork and strategy in action across the pitch.

Beyond the sports field, everyone took time to get creative and reflect on what lies ahead:

Letters to Future Tutors: Students spent time writing thoughtful letters to introduce themselves to their future form tutors - a great mix of reflection and excitement for what’s next!

Treasure Maps: Imagination took over as everyone crafted detailed, artistic treasure maps.

When it was time to cool down, our LRC (Library) was really popular. From tabletop games and puzzles to reading corners and screen activities, everyone found a great way to unwind and collaborate with the new friends they'd made this week.

A huge shoutout to everyone for their enthusiasm, brilliant teamwork, and great energy over the past two days.

Day 2 of our Year 6 into 7 Summer School at Hylands School was packed with creativity, team-building, and plenty of brilliant moments as our incoming students continue to settle in and shine.

Today's adventures included:

Poetry & Ambitions: Sharpening those English skills to write inspiring poems about goals for secondary school.

Map Skills & Exploration: Swapping volcanoes for maps and putting our geographical navigation skills to the test!

Getting Active: Keeping the energy high with more fun sports and team activities.

Crafts & Creativity: Adding even more color to the week with hands-on creative projects.

It’s been wonderful seeing everyone grow in confidence and make new friends along the way. We can't wait to see what the rest of the week has in store.

* Cheering on and encouraging the younger pupils
* Guiding everyone and making sure they knew exactly what to do at each activity
We are so proud of how they represented Hylands School, showing great maturity, kindness, and leadership throughout the entire day. You are fantastic role models for the younger generation.

We are absolutely delighted to announce that Hylands School has officially achieved the School Games Gold Mark Award for the 2025/26 academic year.
The School Games Mark is a government-led award scheme launched in 2012 and facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust. It rewards schools for their commitment to developing sports competition across the school and the wider community. We are thrilled to see our school’s dedication recognised on such a prestigious level.

Putting 'Sport for All' Into Action
At Hylands, our physical education motto is simple: "Sport for all." While we love a gold medal, our true pride lies in participation, resilience, effort, and inclusion. We believe every student should have the opportunity to represent their school, try something new, and experience the joy of teamwork.

This year, a massive number of our students stepped up to represent Hylands. We didn't just participate; we showed up in force across an incredibly wide range of sports.

Hylands School: Building the workforce of the future.

On Wednesday 8th July, we held our Year 10 Mock Interview Day. We would like to say a massive “Thank you!” to all the fantastic local businesses, organisations, and colleges who joined us, as well as Mat Smith and Sarah Peters who were instrumental in preparing our Year 10 students for the event.

Our students walked into their interviews with nerves, but came out beaming with confidence. They received real-world insights into potential future job markets, and many students were excited to share the invaluable feedback they’d received from the volunteers with their teachers and peers. We are incredibly proud of how respectfully they conducted themselves.

Events like this are only possible because of our community's generosity. Thank you for investing your time into our students' futures.

The buzz around the school was incredible, and the students have gained an immense confidence boost from having professional conversations.

Thank you for helping us prepare our young people for the next step.
