This colony looked like they were about to swarm but decided not to, for now (phew!).
They’re a colony we inherited/rescued recently;
their original hive boxes have been damaged by woodpeckers and left for a few years so we’re moving them into new boxes. As soon as the queen moves into the bottom brood box we’ll add the queen-excluder then remove the old brood box when all the brood have hatched out. There’s so much propolis built up in the original brood box that we can’t get the frames out!
