We are proud to celebrate the fantastic achievement of Maylandsea Primary School children who took part in the 2026 London Mini Marathon.
For many of the children, this was their first experience of a large-scale sporting event. It was not only a chance to challenge themselves physically, but also to build confidence and enjoy being part of something special.

Schools across our Trust were celebrating the joy and importance of reading last week.
The National Literacy Trust reminds us that reading for pleasure can:
✨ Grow empathy
✨ Build confidence
✨ Spark imagination
✨ Broaden horizons
✨ Support learning
Our schools continue to focus on the importance of reading, for example:
Larkrise Primary School spent last week promoting reading across the school in anticipation of today’s celebration, encouraging pupils to explore new stories and enjoy reading together.
Parents and carers from Bumblebee and Ladybird Classes at Maylandsea Primary School enjoyed a well‑attended reading and phonics workshop. Reading remains a key priority at Maylandsea, with staff passionate about fostering a strong, positive start to children’s reading journeys.
St Luke’s Primary School continues its focus on reading and is encouraging families to join the Essex Libraries Winter Reading Challenge. The school also shared simple strategies like echo reading to help build confidence during daily reading at home.
At Great Baddow High School reading is central to life at GBHS. Students take part in weekly Drop Everything And Read sessions, enjoy a wide range of library initiatives and engage in programmes promoting purposeful and pleasure‑driven reading across subjects.
At Quantum Multi-Academy Trust our schools are united in promoting reading as a joyful, empowering and essential skill. Whether through story sessions, library initiatives, family workshops or daily habits at home, every effort contributes to building confident, curious and capable young readers.

Every Day Counts!
Good attendance is one of the most important ways we can support our children’s happiness, confidence and progress at school. Even a few missed days can affect learning, friendships and routines.
We’re reminding all families how important it is for children to attend school every day, unless they are genuinely too unwell. Together, we can help every child make the most of each school day.

Maylandsea Primary School, part of Quantum Multi-Academy Trust, launched a brand-new Scrap Store Play Pod this week, designed to transform play-times by offering children a unique opportunity to engage in creative, imaginative, and active play.
The Play Pod, developed in partnership with Suffolk at Play, is filled with a wide variety of recycled and repurposed materials – from fabric rolls, cardboard tubes, and crates to ropes, tyres, and dressing-up items. These open-ended resources encourage children to invent games, collaborate, problem-solve, and use their imagination in new and exciting ways.
"This is about giving children the freedom to create their own play. The Play Pod will help transform lunchtimes – children will work together, be active, and have fun in a way that builds resilience, creativity, and teamwork." Clare James, Headteacher, Maylandsea Primary School
Research shows that access to open-ended play improves children’s wellbeing, social skills, and problem-solving abilities. By using recycled materials, the Play Pod also helps promote sustainability, showing children the value of re-use and environmental responsibility.
The Maylandsea Primary School Scrap Store Play Pod officially opened on Monday 29th September and is already being met with excitement and enthusiasm from pupils, parents, and staff alike.
